About the Role
The Software Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing internal IT applications, automation solutions, and supporting technical documentation. This role supports Takeda’s mission by delivering efficient, reliable, and scalable software solutions that enhance operational efficiency, platform governance, and the experience of internal and external users.
The position focuses on building and maintaining integrations, automation workflows, and system-level solutions across enterprise platforms, with strong collaboration within Agile teams and alignment with business and compliance requirements.
 
How You Will Contribute
Design and develop internal and external business systems and applications, including system integrations, interfaces, and reporting solutions.
Build and maintain automation pipelines using CI/CD tools (such as Harness) to support platform lifecycle processes, configuration management, and operational governance.
Develop scripts and automation logic using Shell/Bash and REST APIs, enabling integration with enterprise platforms such as Jira and Confluence.
Implement and maintain workflow automation and platform extensions using tools such as ScriptRunner to enhance approval flows, document control, and system behaviors.
Translate business, functional, and operational requirements into documented technical specifications and User Stories.
Apply Agile engineering practices and modern software development technologies to rapidly deliver efficient and maintainable solutions.
Build, unit test, and validate new system functionality according to technical specifications and enterprise standards.
Collaborate with Agile team members to refine user stories, design tests, and support prototypes and production solutions.
Generate and maintain technical documentation (runbooks, execution guides, system documentation) to support audits, operations, and knowledge transfer.
Communicate effectively with IT teams on digital solutions and platform capabilities, and with business stakeholders on Agile processes and delivery progress.
Skills and Qualifications
Working knowledge of software development fundamentals, including Object-Oriented Programming concepts and design principles.
Experience or exposure to automation and scripting, using tools such as Bash, Shell scripting, or similar.
Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools (e.g., Harness or equivalent).
Basic experience with Java, Python, C#, or C++, applying syntax rules and problem-solving skills under guidance.
Understanding of REST APIs, data formats such as JSON or CSV, and system integration concepts.
Ability to follow debugging protocols, perform basic code reviews, and apply structured problem-solving techniques with supervision.
Experience creating or maintaining simple web components using HTML and CSS, following established guidelines.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies, contributing to team activities such as sprint planning, refinements, and retrospectives.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established engineering standards and procedures.

Professional Level Expectations
As an early-career professional, the Software Engineer II handles problems of limited to moderate scope and complexity, working within established policies, procedures, and technical frameworks. Decision-making occurs within a defined scope, using standardized methods to analyze data and situations. The role requires some relevant hands-on experience, with contributions focused on task-specific and system-level activities.
The Software Engineer II works closely with the immediate Agile team and relevant stakeholders, operating under moderate direction while gradually increasing autonomy, technical ownership, and responsibility.
