Summary:


This role will act as the local Country Manager for SN across our different businesses and locations to ensure a strong culture, generate synergies and enable a great performance and oversee the local leadership of SN Pune to enable it to play a growing and more valuable role in SN global business and. Enabling a strong and united team across business units to drive together our SN India growth strategy.


As Country Manager for India within Springer Nature, this critical part of the role will mainly focus internally, representing India within the global Springer Nature organization, creating and coordinating a local India-wide leadership team, aligning the local partner functions (HR, Finance, Legal, Comms, and General Affairs), with senior representation from the other business units - Education, Healthcare, and Research. The Country Manager will need to have the gravitas and gain mutual trust and respect to work well together to set the example to senior leadership in India, continue to focus to lift standards, and take the lead to drive the business growth forward in India.


As the Managing Director of our Pune location with a global lens, you will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing all aspects of the organization's operations and their continuous improvement. Our Pune location has a unique position where we leverage our insights in the publishing domain and acquire, produce and deliver content across media and markets using our technology and publishing solutions.  With a workforce of 1.500 employees from almost all of Springer Natures business divisions, you will be a key internal ambassador and contributor to executing Pune’s strategic capabilities and capacity growth, fostering a positive organizational culture, and ensuring that our company remains a key player in the industry. As part of this role, you will be managing local budgets that are allocated for one of our largest global sites in Pune location specifically for activities that help us build a strong local culture and employer brand making it a great place to work ensuring that our company remains an attractive employer in a highly competitive local market.


This combination of responsibilities makes this a complex role requiring a highly skilled influencer and team player adept at managing multi-matrix relationships, through effective collaboration, and stakeholder management. This role will be pivotal in maintaining and enhancing the local cultural fabric of the location, leading the teams in Pune to create a greater impact for all Springer Nature business areas


Responsibilities:


Country Manager


  • Bring together all our activities and strategic plans in India for SN Management Board/Exco to ensure good understanding of India-specific local needs and represent SN Management Board/Exco to local senior management to ensure strong alignment on SN’s strategy, plans and targets.


  • Coordinate and align local partner functions (Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Corporate Communications and General Affairs) to lift their delivery/performance to global standards with local adaptations on a consistent pan-India basis and align behaviors.


  • Bring together and drive the pan-India leadership team, working with the leaders of Research business functions, and the leaders of Education, and Healthcare to ensure India gets the attention and support it needs to succeed, and, when needed, enable beneficial internal cooperation.


  • Support and execute the local growth strategy and organizational transformation based on the individual business unit strategies


  • Encourage a collaborative mindset by fostering a sense of community, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to achieving strategic goals.


Compliance and Risk Management - India


  • Ensure compliance with legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.


  • Identify and mitigate business risks while promoting ethics and integrity.


  • Enforce adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the company’s legal and business ethics.


  • Global Reporting for India: Collaborate with global stakeholders and provide regular reports on company performance.


  • Regular, continuous and involved interaction with internal key decision makers on matters involving and requiring significant commitment.


Organizational Culture and People Management in Pune:


  • Drive the innovative and dynamic culture that is the essence of Pune’s success


  • Foster a positive work culture that promotes innovation and employee engagement in a matrix organization.


  • Attract, retain, and develop top talent through effective talent management.


  • Draw on relationships with department heads, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals.


  • Lead and motivate to advance employee engagement and develop a high performing managerial team.


  • Lead the team with integrity and to establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment.


  • Establish robust communication channels to facilitate and encourage information sharing, updates, and feedback.


Financial Management in Pune:


  • Oversee local budgets and develop forecasts.


  • Ensure proper utilization of budget for creating employee and business engagement.


Operations Management in Pune:


  • Lead the senior management team in implementing operational plans aligned with strategic goals.


  • Drive continuous improvement on all aspects of the various operations areas.


  • Monitor and evaluate departmental performance to drive operational excellence.


  • Devise strategies for ensuring the growth of programs enterprise-wide, and implement process improvements to maximize output and minimize costs


Candidate Profile, you will have:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.


  • Proven senior leadership experience in IT/ITES industry or comparable business leaders within the India market.  


  • Strong understanding of the IT/ITES market and emerging technologies.


  • Thorough knowledge of market changes and forces that influence the company


  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment of driving strategic growth, financial performance, and operational excellence.


  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and trust at all levels.


  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities with a strategic mindset.


  • Able to cut through complexity and simplify challenging problems.


  • Proven ability to plan and manage operational processes for maximum efficiency and productivity


  • Strong commercial acumen with a high sense of responsibility and the willingness to take initiative in a dynamic environment.  


  • Ability to streamline or implement structures and roles that boost speed and efficiency while supporting rapidly shifting business demands


  • Be adept at approaching opportunities and challenges from multiple angles by producing creative business plans to be successfully realized in a fast-paced environment


  • A senior, authentic, credible team player, good at listening and learning, that shares SN’s values, adapts as needed, certainly not overly political in their approach
