Summary:


The Data Engineer for IT Data & Analytics, responsible for Data Ingestion at Wabtec, is tasked with designing and developing data ingestion and integration solutions. This role ensures that data integrations created in BI, DataMart, and application environments adhere to established architectural standards and guidelines. The engineer must also comply with ITIL Processes for Change Requests when implementing new or enhanced code, addressing Incident issues, and responding to user and IT member requests. Given that these BI applications support the decision-making needs of global business management and subject matter experts, this position plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality of the data and ensuring that the applications deliver the features specified in user requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Work closely under supervision of a project manager on the following:
  • Leads the tuning of ETL processes
  • Leads the tuning of databases
  • Responsible for timely project deliveries
  • Leads in writing and reviewing software functional specifications and design reviews
  • Provides guidance to more junior staff & developers
  • Provides input to continuously improve ETL process discipline and resulting output quality
  • Collaborates with development teams, business units to identify, define, develop and implement new data source feeds
  • Monitors usage of the Data Warehouse to identify potential capacity overloads and bottlenecks.
  • Design and develop any/all necessary ETL processes
  • Responsible for loading and validating data into the data warehouse
  • Provides support for technical issues and ensuring system availability
  • Remains current on Data Warehousing technologies, testing industry trends and best practices
  • On-call duties
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


  • University degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience developing BI applications is required
  • The candidate should have 4-6 years of experience developing ETL and ELT solutions
  • Ability to speak and write in English

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Candidates should have a minimum of 4-6 years of solid experience in ETL Tools preferably Informatica PowerCenter with knowledge in developing UNIX Shell Script and on Oracle Pl-SQL.
  • Good to have hands-on development experience with various Informatica PowerCenter transformations.
  • Extensive experience with developing and unit testing and break fix support of ETL jobs.
  • Should have experience with Oracle SQL database programming, SQL performance tuning and relational model analysis.
  • Good knowledge in developing and maintaining Crontab/Appworx schedulers.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously and work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Work with users / stakeholders including application owners for upstream systems to resolve any support issues.
  • Take full ownership of issues that arise - provide analysis of issues, escalate them as and when necessary, and take them through to resolution within defined #SLAs.
  • Follow firm standards as may relate to issue documentation and incident management.
  • Qlik Replicate experience is a PLUS.
