Product Overview



HPE VM Essentials (VME) is a next-generation virtualization platform that enables customers to provision and manage KVM-based HVM and VMware ESXi virtual machines through a single, unified management interface.



The solution includes an enhanced KVM-based HVM hypervisor with enterprise-grade cluster management capabilities such as high availability, live migration, distributed workload placement, integrated data protection, secure hardening, and external storage support. VME is designed to deliver a scalable, resilient, and secure virtualization experience for enterprise workloads.



Role Overview



As an Engineering Manager – Virtualization, you will lead a team responsible for delivering critical capabilities within HPE VM Essentials. You will combine hands-on technical leadership, people management, and execution ownership to drive high-quality outcomes aligned with HPE’s product strategy and customer commitments.



This role requires strong alignment with HPE leadership expectations, including ownership, accountability, collaboration, and customer focus, while maintaining deep technical credibility in systems and virtualization platforms.




What you will do:



Key Responsibilities



Technical & Execution Leadership



  • Own delivery of key virtualization components, ensuring on-time, high-quality, and predictable execution.
  • Provide architectural oversight to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned with HPE’s long-term technology roadmap.
  • Drive technical decision-making with a strong focus on customer impact, operational excellence, and business value.
  • Ensure adherence to HPE engineering standards, quality gates, and compliance requirements.

People Leadership & Talent Development



  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineers through coaching, performance management, and career development, in line with HPE’s people leadership principles.
  • Build an inclusive, high-performing team culture that emphasizes ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Actively identify skill gaps and drive upskilling and succession planning within the team.

Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Collaboration



  • Partner closely with Product Management, Architecture, QA, Support, and Global Engineering teams to align priorities and deliver customer-focused outcomes.
  • Engage with partners and customers to understand requirements, address escalations, and incorporate feedback into product improvements.
  • Communicate status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement



  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and architectural improvements, balancing innovation with stability and delivery commitments.
  • Drive adoption of best practices across DevOps, CI/CD, reliability, security, and release management.
  • Champion a security-first and quality-first mindset across all phases of development.

What you need to bring:



Education & Experience



  • BE / ME in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline.
  • 15 years of industry experience, with demonstrated experience leading engineering teams.

Required Knowledge and Skills



  • Strong experience in the virtualization ecosystem, preferably with KVM-based solutions.
  • Deep expertise in Linux OS internals, clustering technologies (e.g., Corosync, Pacemaker), and file systems.
  • Solid experience with Java, Gradle, Groovy, or similar technologies
  • Exposure in C/C++ and Linux Driver development
  • Strong understanding of enterprise storage and networking.
  • Proven expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, and multi-platform integration.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at engineering, business, and leadership levels.
