Lead Software Engineer - Northern Trust, Private Passport Wealth Management
Responsible for application maintenance and support, identifying and implementing preventive measures proactively, evaluates and makes recommendation on techniques, practices, or technologies that would enhance business needs. Also does work to ensure continuous process improvements. The individual needs to have a good understanding of application topography and the ability to collaborate between all parties involved to maintain a stable application environment.
The Private Passport application inWealth Management platform is a client facing product for Northern Trust’s Wealth Management business and we must demonstrate our ability to deliver and support innovative technology solutions. We count on our SW engineers to run the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health.
Major Duties:
A Lead S Engineer is a professional who acts as a bridge between development and IT operations, taking on operational tasks to ensure the efficient functioning of application. They are responsible for monitoring, automating, and improving the reliability, performance, and availability of application. Engineer responsibilities include monitoring computer systems and building alerts for various operational issues that application can experience. Engineering skills are very much rooted in continually analyzing the infrastructure and making changes to improve reliability. That could mean infrastructure optimization, performance improvement, and workflow design (or redesign). Lead SW engineers are focused on reducing downtime and risk of major incidents, using automation where possible.
Lead SW Engineer Role:
On-call rotation for incident response and proactive incident measures
After incidents, document actions in order to create automated solutions during incident response.
Monitor infrastructure using SRE tools, and suggest tools as necessary
Build monitoring alerts and incident response processes
Improve operational processes and team practices
Coding infrastructure automation across the CI/CD pipeline
As the solution scales, ensure reliability through designing, building, and maintaining the core infrastructure.
Demonstrate strong programming skills and thorough knowledge of systems
Bring about cultural shifts to provide a foundation for process changes.
Relevant training and/or certifications as a Site Reliability Engineer.
Have an enthusiastic, go-for-it attitude.
Proven work experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or similar role.

• Extensive Knowledge and hands-on work experience in supporting Cloud based applications.
• Extensive Knowledge of Unix/Linux Commands and scripting
• Knowledge on scheduling tools like Control-M.
• Nice to have some knowledge on React JS.
• Nice to have some knowledge in Git.

EXPECATION
• Application development/Support experience using modern technical frameworks and architecture.
• Hands on experience with multi-channel applications(microservices, web, mobile, API etc., )
• Experience using some of the following technologies : Java, J2EE, spring boot, Spring cloud, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, APIs, SOAP and RESTful Interfaces, GIT, Gradle, Maven, PL/SQL, React js etc.,
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with a solid technical background are essential and the ability to multi task in a fast paced environment.
• The ideal candidate would explain technical issues in layman’s terms and translate to business and back to technology teams.
• Strong leadership and team player to work and support critical client facing applications.
• Experience working effectively with diverse groups around the world, including management, technology and business partners.
• Constantly look for better ways of solving technical problems and provide timely root cause analysis and a work around solution if available.
• Coordinate with development and product teams for a quick turnaround of permanent solutions.
• Constantly look for proactive monitoring of the application to identify application issues before client reports.
• Participate in knowledge transfer sessions to understand the application that is being transferred to support and document the same whenever needed.
