Critical to achieving bp’s digital ambitions is the delivery of our high value data and analytics initiatives, and the enablement of the technologies and platforms that will support those objectives. We are developing deep data capability to transform the access, supply, control and quality to our vast and ever-growing reserves of data.
We are looking for a Senior Data Manager for supporting the delivery of business analysis and consulting processes and procedures for the Data Modeling, Contextualization and Digital Twin team using sound technical capabilities, building and maintaining effective working relationships, ensuring relevant standards are defined and maintained, and supporting delivery of process and system improvements. The Senior Data Manager will be highly capable and effective in Business Analysis and Data Management. This role will by key in helping deliver a wide range of operational use cases across our Asset Management group (Production & Operations, Gas & Low Carbon). These use cases would drive significant operational efficiency, safety and environmental aims that are key to bp’s transformation.
You will be part of a wider, globally dispersed team within bp dataWorx. They will interface closely with SMEs from Data & Analytics, Digital Products, and business collaborators to develop data & analytical solutions addressing business challenges across domains and businesses. Key technical capabilities and expectations:
Data Domain Knowledge: Provide deep data domain knowledge and business context around Asset Management and other industrial data sources and data products.
Data Manipulation:able to cleanse, transform, reconcile, and standardize data by creating new or modifying existing scripts/automation as needed to ensure high quality data is available to meet business requirements. Work with business partners and technical squads to coordinate data remediation plans to ensure data sets meet business requirements. Leverage knowledge of data models and business processes and upskill others in data manipulation standard methodologies.
Coding:find opportunities for code re-use and product-ionize it into data management software systems in your immediate business entity / enabler area. Advocate for coding standard methodologies across your immediate team (e.g. unit tests, checks code into git, code review). Has awareness of new external trends with respect to building scalable, re-usable data management software systems.
Automation: collaborate with Data Engineers to build new tools and approaches to automate data ingestion, data integration, manipulation and quality control, where needed. In addition to being hands on yourself, you ensure your team re-use or build on top of existing work. Advocate for tech debt removal, build and maintain scalable and re-usable systems that are used by others, identify high value data sets and opportunities for automation.
Standards(internal + external): define, author and own internal standards and workflows (as needed); drive these to agreement and adoption in a subset of your business entity. Drive and adhere to data privacy and digital security standards (e.g. GDPR, Digital Security Policy, etc.) to ensure security of bp data.
Best methodologies:provide insight of industry and technology trends and standard methodologies; advocate for data management standard processes (which also include standard processes on decommissioning and archiving data) in your immediate area; review others work and ensure high quality and reproducibility standards are met. Author / provide guidance on internal processes in data domain areas of expertise (as needed).
Right approach / tool choice: understanding of several commonly available Data Manager approaches and tools; have an iterative attitude!
Architectural Design: provide content and input for data models and data integration as a result of understanding of multiple data domains; you validate the data architecture solution from a customer/consumption/usage viewpoint.
Citizenship: engage in honest conversations and encourage team members to ask questions and actively listen to concerns. Understand how your work with data impacts bp: safety, financials, or other high value impacts. Change Management: recognize and efficiently build, communicate and handle the case for change – the costs and the benefits, building energy around the change. Use change as an opportunity to advance business objectives.
Communication Skills:effectively communicate orally and in writing to a technical and non-technical audience.
Business impact: have business impact on one or multiple critical metrics of your team / sub-area; you are seen as a thought partner to the business. Apply existing data strategies relevant to your immediate scope.
Commercial Foresight:use deep understanding of business operations and commercial factors to support decision-making in immediate scope. Record and track data related spend against activities in your immediate scope, including an activity and/or a service.

Essential
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.
At least 5 years industrial experience in handling data.
Hands-on experience with modern, large-scale databases and IT systems.
Solid knowledge and skills of SQL
Proficient at digesting, understanding and analyzing large amounts of data.
Deep understanding of data models, data standards and processes
Knowledge of data security and privacy compliance policies, like GDPR, NIST and CCPA
Customer-centric and pragmatic approach.
Focus on value delivery and swift execution, while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Partner management and ability to lead through influence
Experience in data program management, including roadmap development, agile project management, product delivery and customer support.
Continuous learning and improvement attitude
Coding capability, SQL and scripting in R or python is a plus
Business domain knowledge and experience gained from energy industry preferred
Experience delivering data products within the Azure cloud platform
Experience with big data technologies and graph modelling (e.g. neo4j, Azure Digital Twin and other Azure data technologies, Hadoop, Hive, and Spark etc) a plus
