About this Role
The Prompt Engineer will play a vital role in designing, shaping, and optimising conversational experiences that power TOBi, Vodafone’s advanced AI‑driven digital assistant. As part of an interdisciplinary team of conversation analysts and developers, the individual will translate complex business and user needs into effective prompt architectures suitable for channel‑agnostic conversational AI systems.
This hands-on position requires strong technical, linguistic, and conceptual design capabilities, enabling the individual to build intelligent, context‑aware, and responsible AI interactions. The role contributes to establishing best‑in‑class standards for prompt engineering and conversational AI practices across the organisation.
Who you are
An individual experienced in designing and optimising prompts for large language models to achieve accurate, engaging, and contextually aligned responses.Someone who is comfortable crafting multi‑turn dialogue flows while maintaining context and coherence throughout interactions.A professional skilled in Python scripting with an understanding of LLM APIs, prototyping, and integrating prompt workflows.A collaborator who thrives in cross‑functional environments and values diversity, ethics, and responsible AI principles.An individual committed to safe, inclusive, and bias‑free conversational design.
What you will do
Design and Optimise Prompts: Create structured, context‑sensitive prompts that produce accurate, consistent, and engaging LLM‑based interactions across diverse use cases.Engineer Conversational Flows: Develop multi‑turn dialogue strategies that maintain continuity, clarity, and user intent throughout the interaction lifecycle.Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with AI/ML engineers, UX designers, product managers, and conversation specialists to integrate prompt architectures into broader conversational AI systems.Testing and Iteration: Conduct A/B testing, user simulations, and data‑driven evaluations to refine prompt performance and improve accuracy, coherence, and engagement.Tune Model Behaviour: Apply techniques such as few‑shot prompting, chain‑of‑thought reasoning, and responsible guardrails to enhance output reliability.Champion Ethical and Safe AI: Ensure all conversational designs align with responsible AI frameworks, covering bias mitigation, transparency, and user safety.
What skills you need
Expertise in designing, evaluating, and optimising prompts for LLMs such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, and Cohere.Strong programming capabilities in Python, including prototyping, prompt orchestration, API integration, and JSON handling.Deep understanding of Conversational AI principles, including NLP/NLU, dialogue management, intent recognition, and entity extraction.Practical knowledge of techniques such as few‑shot prompting, chain‑of‑thought reasoning, prompt evaluation, model behaviour tuning, and RLHF.Familiarity with Agile methodologies, version control practices, prompt management tools, and responsible AI principles.Educational background in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related areas.
