Responsibilities

Sr. Database Engineer – OFFSHORE (INDIA)

• Discover and document all SQL Server instances, databases, jobs, linked servers, and application dependencies.

  
  

• Analyze database objects, T-SQL code, and features for Azure PaaS compatibility; identify unsupported components and remediation steps.

  
  

• Collect workload metrics (CPU, IO, memory, query execution plans) to establish baselines for sizing Azure resources.

  
  

• Assess and recommend tools such as Data Migration Assistant (DMA) and Database Migration Service (DMS) for optimal migration strategy.

  
  

• Review schema complexity, data types, constraints, and identify potential migration blockers.

  
  

• Map existing authentication, encryption, and auditing configurations to Azure security features (AAD, TDE, auditing).

  
  

• Evaluate current HA/DR setup (AlwaysOn, log shipping) and propose equivalent Azure solutions (Geo-replication, Auto-failover groups).

  
  

• Develop scripts for assessment tasks, inventory collection, and validation using PowerShell, T-SQL, or Azure CLI.

  
  

• Provide sizing recommendations for Azure tiers (DTU/vCore), storage, and networking based on workload analysis.

  
  

• Prepare detailed assessment reports, risk analysis, and migration readiness documentation for stakeholders.

  
  

Technical Expertise:

• Strong knowledge of SQL Server (2012+), database internals, and performance tuning.

  
  

• Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and related services.

  
  

Migration Tools:

• Proficiency with DMA, DMS, and other migration utilities.

  
  

Scripting & Automation:

• PowerShell, T-SQL, and Azure CLI skills for automation and reporting.

  
  

Performance Analysis:

• Ability to interpret execution plans, optimize queries, and size workloads for cloud environments.

  
  

Security & Compliance:

• Familiarity with encryption, auditing, and identity management in Azure.

  
  

Certifications (Preferred):

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
