The Role
- Reporting to the Head of Procurement, the Category Manager will be responsible for sourcing and managing one or more product categories. As an eCommerce company, The Ambr Group is developing a category management process that is a hybrid between traditional CPG direct spend and retail procurement practices. Procurement work will be focused on finished goods, and will be structured around manufacturing categories. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a high performing team while contributing to the development of the process and best practices.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Leading sourcing and supplier relationship management activities across a globally diverse category or set of categories.
- Responsibilities include evaluating existing suppliers and supply chain structures, optimizing suppliers including disintermediating suppliers, and re-sourcing to improve responsiveness, optimize costs and reduce risk.
- The scope will include supporting existing products, and the new product development process.
- Scope will also include counter sourcing products made in China to other viable countries with a similar or more advantageous cost structure
- The category manager will be responsible to lead project teams that include brand management, supply chain, new product development, and suppliers and third party buying offices.
Requirements, Skills & Qualification
- Minimum of 5 years of total experience, with at least 2 years as a Category Sourcing or Procurement Manager (or similar) in a CPG company, national retailer, or procurement consulting company (or similar)
- Undergraduate degree
- Language: Ability to lead projects and influence senior management in English;
- Nice to have: Ability to communicate in basic Mandarin or Cantonese
- Ability to travel globally up to 25% of the time
Capabilities
- Experienced in negotiation, RFQ and RFP development and execution
- Remarkable analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills; including the ability to use qualitative and quantitative data in conjunction with ambiguous information to make decisions and recommendations.

- Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects across different areas of the business
- Strong commercial acumen
- Strong Supplier Relationship Management skills
- Ability to get things done and produce conclusive, measurable results within time commitments
