Project Manager – Electrical Engineering

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Project Engineering Manager (PEM) for GIS (Gas Insulated Substation) / AIS (Air Insulated Substation) projects up to 765kV. The PEM will lead a team of Design Leads, Design Engineers, and Draughts persons, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams including Civil, Structural, Electrical, MEP, and Instrumentation departments. The role spans the full project lifecycle from pre-bid engineering, design review, vendor coordination, to commissioning support, providing technical leadership and facilitating vendor engineering processes to ensure high-quality engineering outputs delivered on schedule and within budget
Objective
The ideal candidate will:
- Execute engineering activities within stipulated timelines, adhering to quality and cost requirements
- Monitor Level 2 (L2) schedules during project execution, optimizing designs and proposing alternate solutions for timely delivery
- Perform inter-disciplinary coordination among Civil, Structural, MEP, and Instrumentation teams
- Allocate work and manage man-hours across different project roles
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Project Planning Manager to align deliverables with project schedules
- Conduct regular project review meetings and internal meetings for resource optimization and productivity enhancement
- Review designs, calculations, and drawings, ensuring timely submission with client approvals
- Resolve vendor-related issues and ensure timely delivery of materials to the project site
- Provide clarifications to inter-discipline managers regarding design aspects of equipment
- Enable and review accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) estimations
- Support Site Execution Teams in resolving design-related delays and procurement issues
- Ensure BIM (Building Information Modeling) implementation across projects
- Lead and manage a team of Design Leads, Design Engineers, and Draughtspersons
- Conduct vendor evaluations against client technical specifications
- Support BOQ reviews, pre-bid offers, technical submissions, and post-tender clarifications
- Ensure issuance of Manufacturing Clearances through supplier communication
- Communicate deliverable lists from clients and obtain resource requirements
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering
- Experience: 12+ years (predominantly in design aspects of Substation Construction and leading engineers in multiple project executions)
Technical Expertise:
- Primary and Secondary Engineering for Substation projects
- Design of GIS/AIS Substations up to 765kV
- Selection and design of Power Transformers, Reactors, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Instrument Transformers
- Substation Primary and Secondary Design: Earthing, Lighting, Lightning Protection, Cabling
- Interfaces between Civil, MEP, Instrumentation, and Secondary Engineering (Schemes, Wiring Diagrams, SCADA & Control Systems)
- Experience leading projects across multiple geographies, clients, and utilities
- Detailed knowledge of substation equipment, vendor engineering, and market conditions
- Ability to interpret contractual technical requirements and facilitate project teams
- Software Skills (Desirable): ETAP, PSCAD, CYMGRD, Project Planning Tools
