We are recruiting a chief operating officer (COO, Applied Materials India) who has strong leadership skills and the ability to approach business with a creative point of view. The COO will report to the President, Applied Materials India and lead a team of high-performing professionals to be efficient, productive, and effective in executing on the Company goals. The ideal candidate has extensive experience within our industry, preferably having worked their way up to an executive role in a technical, service or operations role and significant potential to progress further in their career. We believe this trajectory helps a person develop a unique mix of business and management expertise, plus proficiency with the practices, policies, and procedures of our industry.
Objectives of this role
- Work closely with the Country President (CP) to manage the day-to-day running of the multiple sites in 5 cities in India (Bangalore – multiple locations, IIT Bombay, Chennai, Coimbatore, Pune and Mumbai) across India and support business requirements and ensure successful implementation of technical, commercial, operational, and administrative requirements in conjunction with other leadership and business functions within the site.
- Partner with the Country President, local leadership team and Senior executives around the company to develop and execute the India strategy for the Company.
- Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning.
- Oversee company operations and employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organizational goals are met.
- Ensure compliance with global business regulations and take appropriate action when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Analyze internal operations and identify areas for process enhancement.
- Implement business strategies and plans that align with the short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with CP.
- Lead and partner with stakeholders to execute on the Company’s planned technology and operational investment plans in India.
- Oversee operations, PMO, and accounting, and partner with CP in finance management so that sufficient investment capital can be budgeted for near-term growth targets.
- Manage capital investments and expenses aggressively to ensure that the company achieves targets for growth and profitability.
- Monitor performance with tracking software and take corrective measures when necessary and prepare detailed updates and forecasts.
- Partner with business units and functional organizations in India and HQ locations (SCLA, Austin, Boston, etc) to execute on objectives as needed.
- Drive effectiveness and efficiency in operations and enable business units and functions to drive efficiency in their operations.
- Lead the India SR (Strategic Review) alignment process in partnership with Business Units (BUs).
- Establish mechanisms to connect operations across different regions.
- Foster communication and collaboration between regional teams.
- Develop and drive the contractor workforce strategy and model for India operations.
- Help attract talent and build a strong team as needed.
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders.
Required skills and qualifications.
- 15 or more years of experience in executive leadership roles; including experience working in the US or internationally
- Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
- Must have good experience of how SemiCap products are built and developed including working in a process lab
- Experience with Applied Materials products / SemiCap equipment industry will be preferred
- Bachelor’s degree and advanced degrees in engineering or science
- Strong collaborator, who can work in a matrix environment.
- Leader who can develop people, engage team and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and can thrive in a matrix environment.
- Travel will be required within India to multiple sites, as well as occasional visits to Corporate Headquarters or other Applied Materials regional or global locations as needed.
- Role will be based in Bangalore, India.
