The Role


Weatherford is seeking an experienced Elastomer Chemist to support the research, development, qualification, and lifecycle management of elastomeric and thermoplastic materials used in critical oilfield applications.


This role provides technical expertise across product development, manufacturing support, supplier quality, and failure analysis, ensuring materials perform reliably in demanding downhole environments while meeting Weatherford’s safety, quality, and compliance standards.


Key Responsibilities


  • Research, formulate, test, and develop elastomeric and thermoplastic materials for oilfield applications
  • Evaluate material properties using industry-standard analytical and test methods
  • Recommend materials for design, manufacturing, and field use in demanding environments
  • Support engineering teams with failure analysis, investigations, and technical documentation
  • Provide technical support across the product lifecycle including design, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, and operations
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Quality teams on supplier qualification, audits, and issue resolution
  • Manage multiple technical projects and provide guidance to lab technicians and junior chemists

Experience and Qualifications


Required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 6–10 years of relevant elastomer experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with oilfield elastomer applications
  • Strong hands-on experience with elastomer testing and analytical techniques
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred


  • Master’s or PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience with oilfield polymers or elastomer compounding
  • Knowledge of composites and oil & gas industry quality systems
