About this role


What is Global Marketing function in BlackRock?
The Digital Platforms & Experiences team is part of the fast-growing Global Marketing function at BlackRock which seeks to scale our platforms, embody our brand and better engage a multi-trillion dollar audience of investors, advisors and institutions. The Digital team is at the center of a company-wide focus on expanding how design, technology and data can serve our users better. We are building the firm’s digital vision, developing scaled platforms and collaborating across the business to launch simple, design-forward and user-centric experiences across our web, mobile and digital assets. In line with our commitment to innovate and drive client engagement, we are building AI capabilities for our clients.
To achieve our goal, we work closely with other teams, including UX, Aladdin Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, SRE, InfoSec, application development teams or even external vendors.
Primary responsibilities


  • Spearheading the development of our frontend (more heavy) and backend stacks, architecting, and building full stack projects


  • Being involved in inception to delivery of various features and products on a results-oriented and exciting product roadmap


  • Helping the team continuously improve processes and ways of working


  • Working with project managers, technical leads, business owners, and analysts through the entire SDLC, understanding and refining systems requirements, working in Agile model


  • Participating in setting coding standards and guidelines for web applications, identify and detail best practices


  • Understanding and supporting existing systems, and resolve operations issues while working with other engineering staff located across the globe


  • Being curious and eager to learn new things, with a healthy disrespect for the status quo


  • Willing to embrace work outside of your comfort zone, and open to mentorship from others; you make mistakes, but learn from them


  • Being passionate about technology, with personal ownership for the work you do


  • Essential skills / experience


Is a must:


  • 4+ years hands-on Java development experience with services-oriented architectures and Java application servers (Apache Tomcat, Spring Framework)


  • Experience with Test Driven Development (JUnit, TestNG, EasyMock, JMock)


  • Experience supporting Unix/Linux platforms


  • Experience with one of the Front end frameworks. React, Angular would be preferable


  • Knowledge of the core JavaScript and experience of at least one JavaScript libraries like rxjs or ngrx


  • Experience with HTML and CSS


  • Ability of writing clean, future proof code with proper unit testing


  • Knowledge of at least one distributed version control system ideally Git


  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English


  • Willing to work with global project teams spread across several time zones


  • Understanding the Agile project management disciplines, with an emphasis on Scrum


  • Strong teamwork, communication, and time management abilities


Is a plus:


  • Knowledge and interest in the financial services industry domain


  • Good understanding of designing and architecture of applications, according to web standards, security standards


  • Experience with Open Container Initiative (OCI) container packaging and runtime/Cloud-Native distributed containerized microservice orchestration and Helm


  • Experience with Azure DevOps
