About The Role



  • Be responsible to support service recipients in implementing BASF Group EHS requirements and guidance documents, to provide consultancy and support to fulfill legal and BASF requirements on process safety in India or in Asia Pacific countries if requested
  • Act as a Process Safety expert to ensure high quality Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Reviews for new capital investment projects and existing plant according to BASF Group EHS requirements and guidance documents
  • Provide guidance in implementation of guidelines and programs through workshops and training, and monitoring implementation at the site by continuous reviews, assessments, and audits to achieve and continuously improve high standards of Process Safety performance
  • Review Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) critical changes at the sites as part of MOC (Management of Changes) process, non-standard or new activities at the site level.

How You Will Do It



Process Safety



  • Facilitate and coordinate SHE review process (SHE 0 to SHE 4 – Facility siting till Pre startup safety review) for new capital investment projects in India or in Asia Pacific region as requested according to the BASF Group EHS requirements and guidance documents using ICI HAZOP or equivalent techniques
  • Facilitate and coordinate periodic hazard analysis (“Revalidation” and “Clean Sheet” SHE Reviews) for existing plants in India or as requested by regional office as per relevant mandatory requirements using ICI HAZOP or equivalent techniques
  • Provide support to manufacturing sites/plants for preparation of BASF internal audit through questionnaire review, site inspections, documents review, measures for improvement and to follow up for closure of non-compliance
  • Support Process Safety workshops/seminars and provide training to enhance sub region-wide competence in process safety for BASF in India as per the mandatory regional process safety training matrix
  • Communicate & support the global process safety related issues or goals into practical programs and systems by providing implementation tools to service recipients in India . Support and coordinate the roll-out of such programs
  • Act as competence center and advisor for process safety issues (e.g., explosion protection document preparation, guidance on internal and local requirements, safety review for critical changes at site as part of MOC process, non-standard or new activities at the site level) for BASF in India and other countries as requested by regional offices
  • Communicate with Regional Competence Center for Process Safety for new BASF Internal directive, requirements and other Process Safety related projects and activities. Support sites in interpreting and implementing BASF process safety requirements
  • Manage, lead, train and develop subordinates, Process Safety Coordinators, Plant Team members and Management of Change (MOC) Coordinators to build Process Safety related knowledge
  • Oversee all process safety incidents of the country, support to service recipients for incident investigation processes, investigation of Process Safety incidents using root cause analysis methodology, recommend corrective measures and ensure completion of recommendations
  • Consolidate & follow-up on status of action items of reviews
  • Monitor the process safety performance, sharing of process safety incidents with all site colleagues in country as part of knowledge sharing
  • Support Business Units, as requested, for assessment of vendors, suppliers, service providers from BASF EHS perspective
  • Work towards achieving “Process Safety Expertise level 3” (a pool of highly competent process safety experts in BASF) for self in alignment and guidance from regional process safety group

Emergency Response



  • Advise, assist country management and Site Managers on Emergency Response Planning and Fire Prevention Requirements and Guidance Documents and support implementation.
  • Review of Site / Plant Emergency Response Plans
  • Conduct onsite/offsite mock drills and Desk–Top Exercises
  • Support management and control of emergency response related to offsite transport incidents/accidents.
  • Conduct Fire Prevention Inspection/Assessments at Sites/Plants as per COR R1 requirements, prepare report, recommend improvement action and follow-up review or closure of improvement actions
  • Develop and ensure implementation of Crisis Management plan according to Regional Security Guidelines and standards

Country Leadership



  • Act as Country Responsible care (RC) Code Leader on Process Safety. Provide advisory and consultancy services to the sites and interface with regional office
  • Implement country strategy in ensuring legal compliance, corporate conformance, and continuous improvement in own responsible care Process Safety code
  • Be On-demand responsible care code services to Sites.
  • Perform day-to-day consolidated functional responsible care code tasks
  • Establish and maintain India responsible care code requirements

What We Look For



  • Graduate in Chemical Engineering (B.E/B.Tech-Chemical) (as minimum)
  • Diploma in Industrial Safety would be additional advantage but not mandatory
  • At least 10 years working experience in Chemical, Petrochemical production Plants or EHS area particularly in handling Process Safety of hazardous plants
  • Must possess knowledge of Process Safety
  • Knowledge of operating production plant(s) comprising various unit operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of common hazard assessment techniques is mandatory (e.g., ICI HAZOP or similar technique)
  • Conduct process safety risk analysis, HAZOP (Hazard and Operability study)
  • Well-developed conflict management skill to reach team consensus is mandatory.
  • Proficient command of spoken and written English is mandatory
