Job Description

Seeking an experienced VP/ED to run the Underwriting Team in Mumbai, as part of the Global Credit Financing business (within Markets).  Global Credit Financing encompasses several businesses, including Private Credit Financing, Liquid Credit Financing, and CLO Primary.  The Underwriting team is responsible for analyzing and risk managing all of the underlying collateral in JPM's credit financing facilities (typically corporate loans to middle market borrowers).  The Mumbai team is mainly focused on Private Credit Financing, and we are seeking someone with significant credit expertise, in addition to experience managing a large team (~15 analysts and associates).


As a Vice President within our Markets team, you will spearhead the Mumbai Underwriting team as part of the Global Credit Financing business. Your role will involve managing a $34 billion portfolio and supervising a team tasked with analyzing and risk managing corporate loans to middle market borrowers. Your expertise in credit, strategic thinking, and passion for nurturing junior talent will be crucial in promoting innovation and growth in a global, dynamic environment. You will report directly to the Global Head of Underwriting for Credit Financing in NY and play a key role in managing the growing committed risk within Private Credit Financing. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing quarterly reviews of each client portfolio, managing a large team and a substantial amount of data efficiently, and fostering effective communication across a global team spread across various time zones. Lastly, you will be expected to increase opportunities for client interaction.


Job responsibilities


  • Report directly to the Global Head of Underwriting for Credit Financing in NY.
  • Play a pivotal role in managing the $34bn (and growing) of committed risk within Private Credit Financing.
  • Oversee a team responsible for quarterly reviews of each client portfolio, which includes 1,900 underlying borrowers and 2,500 assets.
  • Think strategically to innovate and grow the business.
  • Manage a large team and a substantial amount of data efficiently.
  • Demonstrate strong credit acumen.
  • Exhibit passion for training and developing junior talent.
  • Communicate effectively, as it is a global team across many time zones.
  • Increase opportunities for client interaction.

Required qualifications, skills and capabilities


  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in credit risk management, investment banking, or portfolio management, with a strong background in credit risk analysis
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively on a global team
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to thrive under competitive pressure with an excellent work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze the impact of macro-events on credit portfolios
  • Expert proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Office

Preferred qualifications, skills and capabilities


  • Previous experience managing a large team
  • Proven people management experience, with the ability to lead, develop, and innovate a large team; previous experience as a manager is preferred.
