Job description

We are looking for an exceptional person to lead and grow our Contaminated Land team in India. You will have at least 12 years’ post-graduate experience working in the Geo-environmental field. 


The successful candidate will support with the delivery of projects working closely with and being supported by other team members, Project Managers and Directors within the WSP Middle East as well as play a key role in supporting and coaching team members in the GCC. 


The position would suit someone with extensive experience in the contaminated land sector who would like to further develop their leadership and technical consultancy skills and support in the growth of a successful team.  The role involves organizational and administrative responsibilities and requires skills, such as planning, analysis and judgement.  The Principal will be responsible for both the technical and commercial delivery of projects, including effective delegation and checking of work, and will be responsible for the line management and mentoring of more junior staff ensuring their technical development and career progression.


The Principal is also expected to ensure that their own professional skills and competencies are continually improved to meet the requirements of the team and any relevant professional bodies.

Responsibilities:

The requirements will include, but are not limited to, the consistent delivery of the following tasks and responsibilities:


  • Leadership of projects and line management of staff including supporting career development (technical, professional and personal) goals of junior staff, to encourage training and learning. 
  • Provision of reliable, effective and efficient delivery of environmental consultancy services and seeks regular feedback on performance. 
  • To work in an integrated manner with limited supervision where appropriate and to understand the task at hand; what is required, when it is required etc. and to deliver tasks in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • Successful and proactive project management of basic to medium complexity projects / tasks – strong commercial awareness. 
  • Provides technical direction including robust reviews of technical work prepared by others with constructive and developmental feedback.
  • Building strong relationships with the other WSP Middle East teams and to proactively identify the tasks required within a project and confirm their requirements with project managers.
  • Supports the Middle East Team with the preparation of fee proposals for basic to medium complexity, and technically challenging projects.
  • Is able to successfully manage a number of projects / proposals at one time. 
  • Promotes the importance of our health, safety and wellbeing culture and demonstrates that they live the values. 
  • Accurate and efficient preparation of reports such as Phase 1 and Phase 2 ESA’s, Remediation Strategies, EIAS (soil and groundwater and ESDD work – able to convey complex information to others in an understable manner.
  • Effective delegation of project tasks with review and feedback.
  • Preparation and self-checking of interpretative (non-specialist) reports.
  • Developing specialist skills in line with career aspirations and PDR with input into specialist reports with limited oversight. 
  • Takes ownership of own training path including achieving further professional qualifications and completing self-learning and proactively seeks self-development and exposure to areas of operations out with existing experience.
  • Knows technical limits and seeks help as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Environmental Sciences or Engineering related discipline: for example Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Engineering or Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with focus on Environment related work.
  • Masters degree in Environmental Science, Geology or Engineering related discipline (or similar subject) desirable with focus on Environment.
  • Extensive experience (10 years +) working with an Environmental Consultancy or any other company conducting Environmental Site Assessments and contaminated Land risk assessment and remediation for sites.
  • Working towards chartership with institutions such as  The Geological Society, or Institue of Environmental Sciences.
