Overview & Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE JOB


 This position was designed to direct and control the planning, processing and scheduling activities related to Elliott parts and product orders. The Production Planner coordinates pre and post-contract requirements in accordance with customer and Elliott specifications. The general function of the job includes: utilizing existing and new computer assisted systems, establishing schedule priorities, evaluating shop loads, maintaining the optimum level of inventory to satisfy customer requirements, and taking necessary actions to prevent and resolve overload conditions and delays in the manufacturing process.


The Production Planner  is also expected to ensure compliance with the Department Operations Manual and all applicable Work Instructions in support of Elliott Safety, Quality and ISO requirements.


  • Plan the scope of work, prepare weekly, Monthly & Yearly schedules, provide weekly & monthly Plan to Production engineer for Machining/Assembly/Testing/Packaging & shipping
  • Function as a Lead engineer for all Planning activities in shop and monitor Plan v/s Actual in Shop.
  • Ensure safe work practices are adhered to at all times. Co-ordinate on Safe work practices with the Operations Manager and EHS Lead
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work place within the department.
  • Control costs associated with budgets including but not limited to material purchases, contracted services and overtime.
  • Ensure that all work conducted meets current standards as defined by such national, state and local regulatory agencies
  • This position may be assigned to alternate shifts as necessary to carry out the department’s objectives and tasks
  • Communicate with outside vendors and contractors for project related works.
  • Maintain an environment for professional and ethical conduct within the Shop Area.
  • Responsible for making specific suggestions for cost, productivity, and quality improvement, originating new ideas, suggesting training, capital improvements or other programs to their supervisor

BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE


 Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Production/Industrial Engineering or equivalent with 5 years’ of Experience required, although equivalent experience will be considered.   A Production Planning Engineer must possess experience in a manufacturing environment with strengths in production and inventory control, capacity and materials requirements planning, and production / shop floor activity control.


  • An Elliott Production Planning Engineer must have ability to read and comprehend mechanical and geometric drawings, along with an understanding of design, material and process specifications and how they can have affect on durations and schedules.
  • An understanding of standard manufacturing route sheet structure, standard hours, durations, lead times, and key metrics such as utilization, efficiency and productivity. 
  • Successful planners possess a background in team oriented environments, a positive attitude, an ability to effect and accept change, a demonstrated ability to make well informed decisions and a positive perspective regarding the work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills are required, along with the ability to influence other departments and disciplines to work together to meet the needs of the customer. Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning , Project Life Cycle Management  and Material Requirement Planning  systems and excellent computer skills are required.
  • Experience with multi-level bill of material structure is required, knowledge of Elliott product lines is preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and basic knowledge of fabrication and machining manufacturing processes is required.
  • Must be comfortable in a heavy manufacturing environmental and work with limited supervision
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required. Familiarization with ISO, ASME, and API codes and regulations
  • Experience in rotating equipment manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Quality systems and standards
  • Knowledge of CNC & conventional Machines & tools
  • Work experience on  SMAW, TIG & MIG welding, NDT, Heat Treatment, Grit blasting and Balancing are added advantage
  • Intermediate experience and knowledge of complex lean concepts and tools.
  • Indeterminate analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to creatively solve complex problems by using quality tools & Familiar with office software’s & ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety standards and Compliance (EHS).

NATURE OF THE JOB


Create and control production schedules in assigned manufacturing area. Responsible for coordinating all phases of Engineered Products manufacturing orders, taking necessary actions to ensure all requirements and delivery schedules are met. Such actions include administering activities of bill of material structure, accumulation of inventory, and tracking of purchased, outsourced and manufactured components.


Duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Reviewing all manufactured and purchased customer requirements
  • Cyclical inventory analysis and review
  • Securing all necessary technical support for component processing
  • Identifying and initiating procurement of raw and finished materials for the manufacture of components parts
  • Evaluating work center load information
  • Calculating delivery estimates to support sales quoting process
  • Maintaining accurate data files
  • Relieving capacity restraints by developing and implementing corrective actions
  • Providing order status to Elliott management, project management, other business units, Sodegaura and customers as necessary Supports the development and implementation of continuous improvement activities related to Machining ,Assembly ,Piping, Welding, Packaging & Test Operations , but not limited to establishing best practices, standard work instructions, safety culture and habits, and good housekeeping techniques.

 This position requires regular contact with all departments within Elliott Company, including but not limited to: Manufacturing, Purchasing, Engineering, Drafting, Inventory, Quality, Maintenance, Safety, Service Shops, Field Services, Sales, Project Management and Finance.


Requires periodic contact with customer representatives, suppliers and subcontractors.


SUPERVISION


 The person who holds this position is primarily an individual contributor; however, he or she must possess the ability to supervise, guide and direct the activities necessary to achieve customer satisfaction. This position requires the ability to elicit team work and cooperation from persons who are not direct reports, but who are critical to the completion of a task or project.


SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES

 1. Create and maintain schedules for manufacturing resources and work centers in assigned area. Manage capacity, load and buffer in order to plan and control activities.


        Manage schedule risk by anticipating issues and recommending remedial action to mitigate impact to customer delivery requirements.   Analyze data, participate in the creation of recovery plans, and take actions including outsourcing decisions, overtime and staffing recommendations, and expediting as necessary.


2. Manage and maintain the manufacturing bills of material for assigned area and administer bill of material into the ERP system, including any order and or BOM / Drawing changes that affect production or purchased and outsourced components.  


3. Review MRP suggestions and exceptions in the ERP system planners workbench, utilize shop order visibility reports, release purchase requisitions, create internal work orders to satisfy demand, ensure purchased component required dates are accurate for purchasing. Manage internal work order start and completion dates to ensure schedule compliance.  Maintain optimum work in process (WIP) levels in assigned area. Ensure all processing and transactional activities are accurate and current including


    job completion,  BOM roll ups, inventory accuracy, costing issues.


4. Actively participate in regularly scheduled material review meetings in assigned area in order to ensure the timely and accurate disposition, processing and closure of all non - conformance (NCR) issues affecting production. Expedite as necessary.


5. Maintain accurate capacity / load data for assigned area, provide information as necessary to support the monthly S&OP process as required. 


6. Establish and control inventory including component replenishment, assist in the yearly inventory obsolescence review, support yearly physical / WIP inventory process in  assigned manufacturing area. Assist and make recommendations for management of material authorizations (MAM's) in the yearly review process.                    


7. Schedule all customer witness points as required in assigned area(s).


8. Evaluate order exceptions and take necessary actions to resolve problems.


9. Coordinate with methods/manufacturing engineering on routings for all components and shop floor activities.


10. Participate in any shop floor auditing activities.


11. Manage the Planner's Workbench within the ERP Application System as a primary tool to perform the above functions.


12. Manage daily activities of manufacturing clerks and cell controllers in assigned area and provide training and guidance as necessary.


13. Manage order activity to ensure the accuracy of job costing within the ERP system.
