Introduction

Qiskit is the world's most popular and performant software stack for quantum computing and algorithms research and development. With about 70% of the quantum programmers in the world using Qiskit for many years running according to independent surveys. Qiskit is open-source and working towards open-governance: https://github.com/Qiskit. It's now developed using Rust, which is a significant contributor to maintaining its performance leadership. We are now working with the vision of making it the gcc and libc of quantum computing: open, very performant and platform-neutral quantum compiler and the standard library for programming with quantum computers. We are looking for candidates to grow to be integral contributors and technology leaders in the core Qiskit team.





Your role and responsibilities

* Qiskit is a flagship for IBM Quantum and you will be a senior software developer in the Qiskit team and expected to grow to be an integral contributor and technology leader in this team.
* This includes making strong code contributions to the Qiskit SDK and maintaining it:http://github.com/Qiskit/qiskit
* A strong collaborator in a multi-disciplinary team with skills in performant software design and engineering, quantum compilers and quantum information. You mentor the junior team members on your strengths and quickly learn the other skills on the job.
* An ideal candidate keeps up with the state-of-art research on topics relevant to Qiskit including quantum compilers and quantum information, and works with the researchers to integrate a performant implementation of the state-of-the-art algorithms into Qiskit.
* Ability to work with large open-source projects. Should know the best practices for working in open-source communities, mechanics of github and code review.
* The candidate should be able to work and collaborate with large teams situated across the globe.

Required technical and professional expertise

* We expect a candidate to be experienced in most of the skills mentioned below:
* Performant software engineering with ability to use low-level programming language-specific constructs to optimize code
* Strong software design and architecting with experience contributing to large codebases
* Proficient in Rust and Python
* Strong background in data structures, algorithms and mathematics (linear algebra, and preferably graph theory and probability theory).
* Domain knowledge in quantum compilers or quantum information.
