Job description

HackerRank helps thousands of companies hire developers based on skills rather than pedigree, and also nurtures a community of millions of developers to upskill and become next-gen developers.

The people at HackerRank care deeply about their work and have an extremely intense work ethic. In many companies, speed & quality are a tradeoff. At HackerRank, it’s not; we expect you to ship in about half the time that most competent people think is possible while maintaining a standard of quality you’d proudly sign your name on. The only way to make this happen is to truly love your craft and be deeply committed to growth.

About the role

As a Senior Developer Relations (DevRel) engineer, you will be responsible for building and scaling a strong developer community around our core products. Your primary focus will be to engage developers, identify and nurture top talent, and create systems that enable the community to contribute high-quality questions at scale.

You will operate at the intersection of community, product, and growth, acting as both a champion for developers and a strategic partner to internal teams. This role is critical to expanding our ecosystem, increasing our talent pool in the network, and ensuring our products are shaped by real-world developer needs and expertise.

What you’ll do

  • Build and manage a global network of experts to create coding challenges.
  • Build, curate, and manage a community-sourced pipeline of high-quality hands-on questions that include problem description, canonical solutions, hints and guidelines for all our core products.
  • Nurture community participation, support developer success, and measure engagement signals to inform strategy.
  • Identify, recruit and collaborate with developer champions, contributors, community leaders, and influencers to grow our reach and credibility.

Who you are

  • You are a seasoned technical community builder, and developer advocate who blends deep technical credibility with outstanding communication and relationship skills.
  • Hands-on experience writing code, building sample apps, or shipping technical projects that demonstrate your ability to teach by example.
  • Strong technical foundation with experience in at least one mainstream programming language and technology stack.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You can explain complex technical problems and solutions in ways that empower developers to succeed.
  • Genuine passion for developers, deep empathy for their workflows, and a commitment to helping them succeed without resorting to sales pressure.

Even better if you have

  • Experience contributing to or building for developer ecosystems.
  • Exposure to open-source communities and technical content development.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven workflows for scaling product capabilities.

You’ll thrive in this role if

  • You’re a builder at heart, excited to create scalable systems from the ground up.
  • Ambiguity doesn’t slow you down - you bring clarity, structure, and crisp execution.
  • You care deeply about developer experience, customer impact, and raising the bar in technical hiring.
  • Collaboration energizes you, whether it’s with engineers, customers, or global experts.
