AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Amazon Web Services is seeking an outstanding Software Development Manager to join the AWS Data Platform team, which is part of the AWS Commerce Platform Organization. The AWS Data Platform team's vision is to become the technology leader in delivering products and self-service capabilities for AWS customers to address their data management and democratization challenges. We are truly leading the way to disrupt the data industry. We are accomplishing this vision by leveraging analytics services offerings like EMR, Glue, Lake Formation, Athena, Redshift and other AWS services, combined with a distributed data platform, Lakehouse and Data Mesh architecture. We collect and process billions of usage transactions every day into actionable information in the Data Platform and make it available to our internal service owners to analyze their business and make decisions.
Key job responsibilities
This role requires ownership, autonomy, and an ability to deliver results. You should be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving. Clear communication and prioritization will be important as you partner with Product Management to plan, design, and deliver game changing experiences for customers.
You will become intimate with the architecture of our systems and be responsible for diving deep into code, while developing solutions for our customers and services. You’ll drive prioritization of operational issues, and drive automation design & scaling requirements in support of the wider organization
What You'll Do
Effectively mentor and manage teams of software developers including their projects and performance, and guide them through prioritizing projects to offer our customers the best possible experience,
Effectively partner with most Commerce Platform service teams to ensure high velocity and upmost reliability of their services,
Deliver project roadmap on-time, communicating clearly with team, management and stakeholders
Contribute to and lead design, architecture, process and development discussions
Distil and communicate technical concepts to the team and other stakeholders
Argue for the right outcomes with data, conviction and diplomacy

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
