What You'll Do:


In the role of Software Engineer for OS Engineering team, you will be part of the Operating System Software Engineering team responsible for the development, integration, functional and performance testing of OS Level features for our public cloud and on-premises solutions. You will be responsible for: 


  • ensuring the timely delivery of committed features,
  • liaising with other engineering teams for key features.

At a broad level, you will implement software features on Teradata cloud and on-prem offering at the OS level. Success in this role would mean being a highly motivated, empathetic, and creative engineer who is ready to participate in an agile team environment and contribute to the success of Teradata. Given our team's focus on solutions in the cloud in addition to the on-prem systems, an engineer in this role should also have experience working on projects on the Linux OS, AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud. Some familiarity with the Linux Kernel would be a plus. Experience with Teradata Vantage is also preferred.

Our team is comprised of engineers working on core kernel, debugging, testing automation and validation, automated OS cloud image production, working towards the same goal: to provide comprehensive, reliable, and scalable solutions for the Teradata SQL Engine (i.e. Teradata Database) for our supported On-Prem and public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). We are looking for a candidate to join our fast paced and cutting-edge development organization that is on the forefront of our "Teradata Everywhere" strategy.


Teradata Labs, the technology research and development (R&D) organization within Teradata Corporation, has been turning innovative decision support technology into business results for over 30 years. Our R&D team of analytic architects, database developers and engineers work to understand and advance emerging technologies to invent the next wave of cutting-edge analytic data solutions.


What Makes You a Qualified Candidate ("Must Have"):


  • Experience with the Linux Operating System.
    * Experience with public and/or private cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Linux KVM, VMWare ESXi, etc.
    * Proficiency with bash, Python and C.
  • Experience with user level debugging and tools in Linux such as gdb.
  • Knowledge of and experience with DevOps automation tools.
    * Ability to provide support to internal development teams on OS issues/questions.
    * Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meeting one of these minimum education requirements:

    o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline with 2+ years of work experience.


    o Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline with 1+ years of work experience.


What You'll Bring ("Good to have"):


As an addition to the points listed under "What makes You a Qualified Candidate", it would be a plus to have these additional qualifications:
* Exposure to Go and Java.
* Knowledge of CIS benchmarks, FedRAMP standards, FIPS standards, STIG standards.
* Knowledge of and experience with DevOps automation tools and libraries.
* Familiarity with complex network topology setup.
* Some familiarity with the Linux Kernel.
* Familiarity with kernel level debugging and analysis tools in Linux like crash, perf.


  • Ability to debug issues in core OS utilities (such as rpm, curl, openssl, etc).
  • Familiarity with container runtime concepts.
    * Experience with Teradata Vantage. 
    * Ability to provide assistance to our customer facing teams in customer support cases related to Linux OS escalated to engineering.
  • Familiarity with delivery of software updates in Enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with security Best Practices.
  • Familiarity with automation frameworks such as Jenkins.
    * Experience working with Intel-based x86 and/or ARM processors.
    * Experience working in fast paced agile scrum development environment.
