The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) will play a critical role on our data management and architect team responsible for designing, delivering, validating and supporting complex data solutions across the entire Nielsen Media Organization. The Sr. DBA will be working with Product, Application leaders, Infrastructure, and Cloud teams to architect and support our complex data solutions which will satisfy strategic, cost, security and operational aspects of Nielsen’s data management platform needs. The Sr. DBA will also work with vendors/consultants and external support required to manage costs, licenses, feature requests and new product introduction/validation POC's.
The technologies currently supported by sybase team, position requires expert level knowledge of the following:
1. ASE (15.0, 15.7, 16.x)
2. IQ (Simplex and multiplex, 12.x and 16.x)
3. Replication server(MSA, warm standby, table level)
4. Snowflake

Sybase team is responsible for.


  • 24/7 On-call Support for Media Applications: The team ensures uninterrupted availability of media applications through continuous support.
  • Proactive Alert Response: Rapid response to database alerts prevents potential issues from escalating.
  • Incident Management: Active participation in incident management calls aids in swift resolution and prevention of future occurrences.
  • Backup and Tape Management: Monitoring and management of backups guarantee data integrity and recoverability.
  • Database Installation, Upgrades, and Migration: Smooth transitions and optimal performance are ensured through meticulous handling of installations, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Database Maintenance: Regular monitoring and management sustain overall database health and efficiency.
  • Performance Enhancement Solutions: Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks leads to improved database responsiveness.
  • Cloud Migration Support: Expert guidance ensures successful migration of databases to cloud environments.
  • Migration Support: Assistance with migrations minimizes disruptions during transitions.
  • Disaster Recovery (DR) Activities: Ensuring swift database recovery in the face of unexpected failures or disasters is paramount.
  • Replication Management: Setting up and managing replications ensure data consistency and availability.
  • Application Change Management: Safeguarding database integrity during application updates maintains system reliability.
  • Backup Support for Applications: Providing ad-hoc backups safeguards data during critical operations.
  • Security and User Management: Enforcing security policies and managing user privileges uphold data confidentiality.
  • Audit Support: Addressing audit requests ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Performance Tuning: Implementing tuning measures optimizes database efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Adhoc Service tickets: Responding to ad-hoc service requests resolves issues promptly, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
