You will work as part of an operational and globally active team in the ZEISS corporate function IT, which is responsible for ensuring the operation of central IT systems such as servers, virtual desktops and storage systems.


You are responsible for the continuous operation of all components, both in the cloud and on-prem. To ensure this, administrative tools such as monitoring tools and service management components are used.


  • 3 to 5 years prior experience as a Server administrator performing incident handling, alert tracking, change management
  • Proficiency in incident analysis, evidence collection, documentation, communications, reporting and response
  • Very good and deep knowledge regarding Storage solutions like NetApp, Synology and vSAN
  • Deep technical experience in operation and administration in the DFS (Distributed File System) environment
  • Basic Knowledge with common server operating systems (preferred Windows Server, RedHat and Ubuntu)
  • Basic knowledge of cloud technologies (preferred Azure and / or AWS)
  • Basic knowledge in any virtual server solution (preferred VMWare)
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal direction and maximum accountability
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills (fluent English in written and verbal form).
  • A highly customer-oriented way of thinking and working, a strong understanding of support and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in planning, reporting, establishing goals and objectives, priorities, and schedules
  • Support rotational 24x7 operational shifts and on call when needed.

Role Responsibility:


  • Acquire knowledge about Carl Zeiss infrastructure design and follow the process defined for incident, service request or change management.
  • Support, troubleshoot, and administer of Storage Systems on a deep technical level and in cooperation with the responsible Service Owner.
  • Administer and manage of the DFS (Distributed File System).
  • Monitor the event alerts and notify to the concerned team and process the requests from the end users to level 2 and level 3 support engineers.
  • Be vigilant in shift and acknowledge all the incidents within the response SLA defined for each priority.
  • Assist all the team members whenever there is a query raised and contribute to the discussion to best of the ability.
  • Review the changes in queue and ensure all necessary information for implementation are present and documented in the change.
  • Ensure changes gets implemented within the change window with full pre and post implementation details in the change closure notes.
  • Maintain incident hygiene by ensuring all the incidents in queue are updated as per the process defined.
  • Mentor and train the fellow engineers on the process defined.
  • Identify if KB articles for all the standard errors is present and contribute to new KB article creation.
  • Review the existing KB articles every quarter and provide feedback if versioning is required.
  • Provide technical and functional support to the team with analytical feedback.
  • Meet the response and resolution SLA of all the incidents which are in queue.
  • Support rotational 24x7 operational shifts and on call when needed.
