Validation and Integration (VI) Engineer: Job Description


The VI Engineer’s role involves taking ownership of the pre-silicon system validation and emulation, and post-silicon verification of Qualcomm IPs, ensuring they meet specified new product introduction milestones and are ready for mass production.


This role demands a robust understanding of hardware and software, along with analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills to effectively create unique test systems, implement automation, execute tests, and troubleshoot subsequent issues. The role also requires strong collaborations with broader Qualcomm cross-functional teams, such as Digital Design, Analog Design, and Firmware/Software Engineers, to conceive and implement IP characterisation plans, verify and validate solutions. The focus technology areas include Analog/Digital Audio, Power Management Units (PMU), battery management, clock management, auxiliary functions, peripherals, and system power optimisation.


The VI Engineer is expected to effectively manage tasks and ensure timely delivery in line with business requirements. The VI Engineer is expected to execute with minimal guidance from senior team members.


Minimum Qualifications:


• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

Key Responsibilities


  • Contribute to requirements capture and programme reviews.
  • Develop validation plans, identify hardware/software test resources and implementation strategy.
  • Develop test systems and automation of moderate scale and complexity.
  • Automation with standard lab equipment (power supplies, spectrum analysers, signal generators, etc.)
  • Deliver high quality automation and hardware in line with the department’s processes. 
  • Conduct peer reviews for test scripts, data analysis scripts and hardware.
  • Participate pre-silicon emulation-based design verification.
  • Participate in post silicon bring up, validation, compliance testing and debug.
  • Proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and successful delivery of tasks.
  • Maintenance of scripts and hardware.
  • Debug of hardware including defect investigation. 
  • Test execution and data manipulation to confirm validity of results using data analysis and statistics.
  • Collate, summarise, and present validation data for technical and program level reviews. 
  • Contribute to the creation of relevant documentation following the department’s processes. 
  • Dedicate time to learning and development (new scripting languages, test methodology, etc.)

Required Skills


  • Ability to produce automation with Python, C and R Language
  • Familiarity with C#, System Verilog
  • A good knowledge of analogue and digital semiconductor circuits
  • A good level of signal processing and audio knowledge
  • Knowledge of equipment such as power supplies, Multimeters, oscilloscopes, audio analysers, signal generators, spectrum analysers
  • Ability to draw inferences and highlight key points from a dataset.
  • Demonstrate analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Good cross-function coordination and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills 


  • Experience of working in a test lab
  • Experience of working with FPGA platforms.
  • Experience with RTL verification, UVM/OVM, SV assertions.
  • Familiar with simulation tool like Cadence DV tools, Verdi, Synopsys DVE, QuestaSim
  • Familiarity with Clearcase, Clearquest, Jira tools
  • Knowledge of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC standards
  • Detailed knowledge of Analog and Digital Audio, Power Management Units (PMU), Battery Management, Auxiliary functions, Peripherals, Power Optimisation techniques.
  • Knowledge of databases

Minimum qualification


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an internationally recognized institution with at least 1 year experience in a relevant engineering role
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an internationally recognized institution
