Interior Designer
About the role
The
Interior Designer will enhance the in-game environment by crafting engaging, visually consistent interiors. This role involves research, design, and quality assurance to create spaces that align with the game's vision. Collaborating with designers, artists, and developers, the Interior Designer will ensure rooms meet artistic and technical requirements, blending creativity with technical precision.
Responsibilities:
Concept Development
Analyze provided descriptions of in-game rooms to understand the narrative and functional requirements. Research relevant styles and themes to create mood boards reflecting the desired aesthetic and tone.
Collaboration with Teams
Work with developers, artists, and the implementation team to ensure seamless integration of designs. Participate in discussions to contribute ideas for enhancing interactivity and aesthetic appeal.
3D Blocking and Design Variations
Use pre-made assets to create 3D blockouts of rooms, focusing on spatial design and initial layout. Provide textures, color schemes, and material applications in three distinct variations, along with a "basic" version representing an empty, minimal design. Create a guide detailing item placement, their representation, and the grid cells they belong to.
Final Review and Adjustments
Evaluate implemented interiors post-lighting, animation, and VFX application. Provide feedback or make adjustments to ensure colors, shaders, lighting, and overall mood meet the highest quality standards.
Quality Assurance
Review outsourced assets to verify adherence to naming conventions, design specifications, and requested colors. Inspect models and textures for alignment with the project vision and technical requirements.
Education & Experience
Degree in Interior Design, Game Art, 3D Visualization, or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in designing interiors, preferably in games or virtual environments.
Skills & Competencies
Proficiency in design tools like Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or similar software. Familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine. Strong grasp of lighting, material application, and spatial design in 3D environments.
Attributes
Attention to detail and ability to balance creativity with functionality. Strong communication and willingness to adapt based on feedback. Passion for video games and an eagerness to learn gaming-specific requirements, if not already experienced.
