General Role Description

The Trainer for ICT Systems and Network Administration is a technical expert responsible for preparing students to manage the digital backbone of modern enterprises. This role covers the full spectrum of IT infrastructure, from physical structured cabling and hardware maintenance to the configuration of Windows and Linux server environments.

Acting as a More Knowledgeable Other (MKO), the Trainer guides learners through the Three-Layer Workshop Concept—progressing from basic PC assembly to complex domain administration. The Trainer is responsible for executing the Blended Training Model, ensuring that foundational theory (e.g., TCP/IP protocols, IP addressing classes) is delivered via Flipped Learning on the digital platform. This ensures that in-person workshop time is reserved for high-value activities like Server Deployment, Network Troubleshooting, and Project-Based Learning (PBL).

Key Roles & Responsibilities

A. Technical Instruction & Workshop Management

• Infrastructure & Cabling: Teach the implementation of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA). Supervise the installation of network components (racks, patch panels) and the connection of hardware using correct tools (crimpers, punch-down tools, testers).
• Networking Fundamentals: Instruct on reading network diagrams and interpreting topology symbols. Guide students in configuring IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6), TCP/IP settings, and basic router setup.
• Hardware & Configuration: Supervise the configuration of PCs, peripherals (network printers, scanners), and their connection to the corporate network.
• Server Administration: Lead advanced training on building domain environments: installing Windows Server 2022, configuring Active Directory (AD), DNS, DHCP, and IIS. Introduce open-source alternatives using Ubuntu Server and Apache2.
• Diagnostics & Support: Train students to use command-line tools (CMD/PowerShell/Bash) to verify settings and troubleshoot connectivity issues. Enforce the application of SLA procedures and professional company policies during technical support scenarios.
• Cybersecurity Basics: Implement core security practices: configuring firewalls, managing access control lists (ACLs), deploying antivirus solutions, and executing patch management strategies.

B. Pedagogical Leadership & Methodology

• Flipped Learning Facilitation: Manage the delivery of theoretical content (e.g., OSI Layer definitions, subnet calculation) through the LMS. Ensure students are prepared to apply these concepts in the server lab.
• Scaffolding & Mentorship: Monitor learner progress during complex configurations—such as promoting a server to a Domain Controller—providing targeted mentorship within their "Zone of Proximal Development" (ZPD).
• Green TVET Integration: Embed sustainability by teaching Green IT principles: power management for server rooms, responsible e-waste disposal (components, cables), and virtualization to reduce hardware footprint.

C. Digital Pedagogy & Data-Driven Intervention

• Virtualization & Simulation: Utilize tools like Packet Tracer or GNS3 for network simulation, and Hyper-V/VirtualBox for server virtualization, allowing risk-free experimentation before touching live equipment.
• Predictive Analytics (TIP): Analyse engagement data to identify students struggling with abstract logic (e.g., recursive DNS queries) and intervene early using the Trainer Intervention Protocol.
• AI-Enhanced Content: Act as the "Human-in-the-Loop" to validate AI-generated troubleshooting scenarios (e.g., "Simulate a DHCP exhaustion attack").

D. Assessment & Quality Assurance

• Competency-Based Assessment: Conduct continuous assessments where learners must demonstrate mastery of specific tasks (e.g., "Terminate a CAT6 cable to standard" or "Create a Group Policy Object") before progressing.
• Process-Based Tracking: Use digital tools to track the process of administration (e.g., using the correct CLI syntax vs. GUI reliance) as verifiable evidence of competency.
• Joint Industry Assessment: Collaborate with private sector SMEs to conduct final practical assessments, ensuring graduates meet the standards of IT service providers.

E. Institutional Sustainability & Income Generation

• Income Generating Activities (IGAs): Design and deliver upskilling courses for industry professionals (e.g., "Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate," "Linux Essentials").
• Consultancy: Provide technical consultancy to local small businesses on network design and server upgrades.
