Job Description: Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical

Position Summary

The Commissioning Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing the mechanical commissioning activities of projects to ensure systems and equipment are installed, tested, operated, and maintained according to design specifications and industry standards. The role involves close coordination with project managers, construction teams, vendors, and clients to ensure safe, efficient, and successful project startup.


Key Responsibilities

1. Commissioning & Testing

  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules for mechanical systems.
  • Perform pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities including inspections, functional tests, performance tests, and system validation.
  • Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) and SAT (Site Acceptance Tests) with vendors and clients.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Ensure that all commissioning activities comply with project specifications, drawings, and international standards.

2. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain commissioning documentation, including checklists, test sheets, punch lists, and reports.
  • Generate as-built documentation and contribute to O&M manuals.
  • Monitor progress and prepare daily/weekly commissioning reports.

3. Coordination & Communication

  • Work closely with project teams, engineering, QA/QC, HSE, and contractors.
  • Coordinate with vendors and OEM representatives for specialized support.
  • Support client representatives during inspection and acceptance stages.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure commissioning activities comply with HSE standards and safety procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure proper implementation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and other safety protocols.

5. Technical Support

  • Provide technical guidance on mechanical equipment such as:
  • Pumps, compressors, valves, piping systems
  • HVAC equipment
  • Rotating and static equipment
  • Boilers, chillers, heat exchangers
  • Firefighting and plumbing systems (if applicable)
  • Support start-up, handover, and performance optimization.
