Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.
As part of the Infrastructure organization, the Engineering Enablement team helps scale Netflix’s engineering efficiency by improving how developers interact with core platform capabilities. We act as a central source of technical insight: collaborating directly with engineers, analyzing platform behaviors, identifying cross-cutting patterns, and partnering with platform teams to drive meaningful improvements.
We focus on strengthening developer workflows, optimizing platform usability, expanding paved-road tooling, and improving documentation and developer education. Our work combines hands-on technical investigation with platform-level influence.
Enable Netflix engineers to move quickly and confidently by improving their experience with the platform and by providing high-quality technical guidance across platform domains.
Our culture is unique, and we tend to live by our values, allowing you to do your best work and grow. To learn more about Productivity Engineering, feel free to listen to this podcast.
We are seeking a Solutions Support Engineer (L5) with expertise in Java and platform tooling. In this role, you will collaborate directly with engineers to understand how platform behaviors surface in development and delivery workflows. You will investigate issues end to end, form and validate technical hypotheses, and provide clear, actionable guidance that helps engineers move forward efficiently.
Because you engage with a wide range of teams and problem domains, you will gain a unique perspective on how our platform operates at scale. This enables you to identify recurring patterns and collaborate with partner teams (such as Java Platform, GenAI Platform, CI/CD & Resilience, and others) to drive improvements that strengthen the developer experience and platform reliability.
Lead end-to-end technical investigations across Java Platform tooling, CI/CD surfaces, and distributed systems
Build a deep understanding of how Netflix engineers use platform capabilities and where challenges arise
Identify cross-cutting patterns from real workflows and translate them into platform improvements
Collaborate closely with partner teams to influence roadmap prioritization and enhance developer workflows
Improve paved-road tooling, documentation, and automation to reduce cognitive load for engineers
Create and maintain runbooks, best practices, and guidance for engineering teams across Netflix
Experience in Java, including advanced debugging, performance tuning, and understanding of JVM internals
Proficiency with Spring Boot and its ecosystem (Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security, microservice patterns)
Experience with distributed systems, including service-to-service communication, timeouts, retries, and resilience patterns
Proficiency with gRPC and REST, including designing, implementing, and troubleshooting APIs
Familiarity with relational and non-relational data stores and their integration in Java-based services
Understanding of Gradle, dependency management, build performance, and plugin behavior
CI/CD expertise, including pipeline design, automated testing integration, and release engineering best practices
Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, and integration testing strategies
Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through deployment, operation, and long-term maintenance
Advanced debugging skills across distributed systems, JVM environments, and CI/CD workflows
Ability to build effective mental models and diagnose unfamiliar issues
Analytical thinking with a focus on identifying root causes and sustainable solutions
Ability to work independently and drive investigations from discovery through long-term solutions
Capacity to turn engineering signals into platform improvements and actionable recommendations
Effective communication of technical concepts to varied audiences
Experience working with globally distributed teams across time zones
Skill in aligning multiple stakeholders around shared engineering goals
Understanding of developer workflows, needs, and challenges
Commitment to improving developer experience and usability across platform surfaces
Experience building internal automation tooling
Background in designing or maintaining engineering productivity infrastructure
Experience contributing to knowledge bases, documentation, or developer education
