Job description

The Department of Information Technology at the Community College of Qatar is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Assistant Professor in Computer Networks or related fields to significantly enhance the department's teaching provision and contribute to the department's growth. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the teaching and development of Computer Networks courses and the department’s expanding provision in computer networking. The Department is interested in expanding its computer networks teaching team, particularly in the areas of Local Area Network Design, Network Infrastructure and Security, Computer network technologies and services, Routing and switching protocols and architectures, or Mobile and Wireless Communication Systems

The successful candidate should also demonstrate potential and interest to contribute to the department's commitment to excellence in teaching, committee services, and student mentoring, and advising while fostering an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.

Qualifications & Required Skills:

  • A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, with a focus on computer networks.
  • Expertise in teaching one or more areas of computer networks, such as network architecture, routing protocols, network security, or mobile &wireless communication.
  • Minimum Three years of experience in teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate level, with a commitment to excellence in education. GCC experience is advantageous.
  • Professional qualifications such as CCNA are advantageous, but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both Arabic and English languages.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate skill and knowledge in teaching discipline.
  • Develop syllabi for relevant courses.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials;
  • Develop, and use a variety of teaching materials that assist students in meeting course objectives.
  • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
  • Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs;
  • Hold regular office hours.
  • Participate in department and college-wide professional development activities and committees.
  • The applicant is expected to be able to communicate effectively in both Arabic and English languages. S/he is expected to maintain professional, ethical, and responsible interactions with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Plan lessons and assignments in line with college and departmental quality standards.
  • Adhere to instructional plans set by the department/program and teach courses according to allocated contact hours.
  • Design assessments to measure student progress and grade papers, tests, and other work as per the course syllabus and departmental guidelines.
