Position Summary

The position is responsible for coordinating activities related to the biosafety program, providing administrative support for committee reviews, facilitating training sessions, assisting with inspection and reviews, and maintaining records.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support for the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), serves as a point of contact for all procedural information, and resolves basic issues related to IBC application submissions by PIs.
  • Facilitates IBC meetings by maintaining participant calendars, arranging logistics, detailing agenda and documents for IBC reviews, verifying the quorum's presence, and collating meeting minutes.
  • Coordinates biosafety training program, arranging logistics and assisting with training delivery and presentations as directed.
  • Assists with maintaining chemical inventories for research laboratories and coordinates for hazardous equipment certification and decontamination.
  • Maintains training and credential records for researchers and committee members and ascertains they are current.
  • Assists with reviewing research protocols/grants/reports against a predetermined checklist to ensure effective risk management practices and applicable ethical approvals are in place prior to research conduct.
  • Maintains documentation for annual BSL re-verification and assists in preparing user reports, Institutional Biosafety Committee registration, assurance and amendments with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
  • Assists designated teams to ensure animal facilities adhere to safety standards and are prepared for inspections and certification.
  • Supports the scheduling, execution, and reporting of annual EHS laboratory inspections.
  • Assists employees and researchers in completing medical screening requirements pertaining to the Occupational Health Program.
  • Assists with visual compliance checks and maintains a log for all shipments for export control audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or related discipline with 3 - 5 years of experience in biosafety or environmental health, safety and security.

Previous experience in research, science, or healthcare is preferred.
