Required Education and Experience


  • Associate degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Two years of experience in an environmental health and safety or related field.


Required Licenses and Certifications


  • Must have a State of Qatar vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a safety or engineering related discipline such as: industrial hygiene, fire safety, occupational safety, occupational health or chemical engineering.


  • EHS related experience in higher education environment.


  • Experience working with the SciShield safety management platform.


  • Hazardous waste management experience.   


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Ability to work independently and in a team


  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills


  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.


  • Working knowledge of environmental health and safety rules, regulations, and standards.


  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.


Essential Duties/Tasks:


  • Inspections - Performs laboratory inspections to ensure a safe environment that is compliant with rules, codes, and regulations applicable to EHS. This duty will require access to all Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) laboratories. Performs assessments in accordance with the TAMUQ and/or TAMU EHS programs under supervisor's and more senior unit staff guidance.


  • Documentation and Reporting - Enters inspection findings into the SciScield database to generate reports that summarize the results of the laboratory inspections. Submit reports as instructed. Assist with laboratory questions and needs in response to inspection reports.


  • Assessments - Performs assessments in accordance with the TAMUQ and/or TAMU EHS programs under supervisor's and more senior unit staff guidance. These may include assessment preparation of assessment reports as per the policies and procedures.


  • Investigations - Actively responds to complaints/safety observations regarding environmental health and safety issues by interacting and communicating effectively with students, faculty, and staff in accordance to the EHS regulations and policies followed at TAMUQ.


  • Equipment Inspections - Perform fume hood QC surveys and facilitate safety shower testing as necessary per operating procedures.


  • Emergency Response - Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed.


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to tolerate moderate exposure to extreme temperature, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, loud noises and chemical substances.

  • This position is security sensitive.


  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.


  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.


  • This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.
