ROLE OVERVIEW
Leading MYP I&S, the I&S Teacher will develop a curriculum consistent with the MYP framework and the MYP I&S Subject Guide and will create units of inquiry relating to the various I&S subjects. This position supports and implements the learning program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of NEOM EC-12 under the supervision and direction of the Divisional Head/Assistant Head of School and the Head of School.
ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES
The MYP Individuals & Societies Teacher responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Curriculum Delivery:
- Develop and implement engaging lessons aligned with the MYP Individuals and Societies framework.
- Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of historical, cultural, economic, geographical, and social issues.
Differentiated Instruction:
- Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs, ensuring an inclusive classroom environment.
Inquiry-Based Learning:
- Facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences that promote critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Guide students in exploring historical events, societal structures, and global issues.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Develop and administer assessments to gauge student understanding and progress.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate interdisciplinary approaches and create a cohesive learning experience.
- Foster positive relationships with other MYP teachers to enhance cross-subject connections.
Professional Development:
- Stay updated on educational trends and advancements in individuals' and societies' education.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills.
Parent and Community Engagement:
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress and involvement in school activities.
- Establish partnerships with the community to enrich the learning experience.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Teaching Experience:
- Proven experience as a secondary social studies teacher, preferably within an IB MYP framework.
- Familiarity with inquiry-based teaching methodologies.
Content Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of historical, cultural, economic, and social issues.
- Ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible manner.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for effective teamwork.
- Experience working with diverse learning needs and creating an inclusive environment.
Curriculum Development:
- Expertise in curriculum development based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework.
Assessment and Reporting:
- Proficient in developing and administering assessments; ability to report on student progress.
Professional Development and Adaptability:
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on educational trends.
- Adaptability to integrate new teaching methodologies and approaches.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, History, Social Studies, or a related field.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience teaching DP I&S subjects, such as DP economics, DP history, etc.
- Specialization or additional certification in Individuals and Societies (Social Studies) education.
- Previous experience teaching within an IB MYP framework.
