Job description

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE


  • The Superintendent, Mechanical Workshop is responsible for all the activities relating to the mechanical workshop. 
  • Supervises all related activities whether in the workshop, or other work sites where work is ongoing and ensures that works are carried out safely, on time and on budget according to project contractual obligations. 
  • The role involves working closely with the Mechanical Workshop Snr. Supt. Onboard Mechanical Snr. 
  • Superintendent and Mechanical Manager, Project Managers, and the Production teams or other internal 
  • departments as required to ensure that all assigned scopes are executed safely, on time, and within budget, in accordance with the contract and the International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS) 
  • Ensures efficiency and proper housekeeping in workshop and/or onboard and when required prepares budgets/cost estimates for production/projects. 
  • Solution orientation and doing it right the first-time mindset is a must, with a proactive approach to solving 
  • issues before they become problems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


  • Adhere to, reinforce, and promote IMI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Policies. 
  • Ensure that related workshop activities are meticulously planned and executed. 
  • Identify the nature of repairs through consultation with stakeholders. Discuss ways and methods of carrying out jobs, attend class inspections and clear any arising points. 
  • Define priorities and organize distribution of men accordingly. 
  • Control overtime working and ensure limits as determined by Management are not exceeded 
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meets the required quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and manage mechanical repair teams, including tradespeople, technicians, and subcontractors. 
  • Ensure, in conjunction with the Procurement Supply Chain Group, that all materials and equipment are procured and delivered in accordance with the production and project’s contract requirements. 
  • Ensure effective and consistent interaction with other disciplines, management and supervision as required. 
  • Ensure that all installation, maintenance and commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures meeting required quality standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer’s recommendations. 
  • Strong involvement in daily/weekly progress reporting and is responsible for ensuring that supervision gather accurate physical progress. 
  • Provide feedback for bid preparations, whether for feasibility and tendering and/or change of scope. 
  • Visit project works regularly, whether in workshops, or other work sites where related activities are taking place to check on progress and provide technical advice and guidance. Ensure all control measures are in place for safety, environmental aspects and housekeeping. 
  • Make proposals towards management regarding processes optimization and CAPEX, productivity norms, manpower planning for the continual improvement of productivity and efficiency. 
  • Prepare individual appraisals for all subordinate staff and workforce and recommend training requirements. 
  • Manage and direct relevant subcontractors to ensure that all contract obligations are met. 
  • Ensure that a high standard of order and cleanliness is maintained throughout the work sites. 
  • Perform other relevant tasks as requested by line management 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/marine engineering or a related field or diploma along with proven experience in this field.
  • Proven experience of working in a heavy machinery workshop of a Ship Repair, Rig Repair Establishment at equivalent level.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in reputable large shipyards, with proven,  hands on and in-depth knowledge in mechanical works.
