The Role:




This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely statutory reporting, tax compliance, and financial accounting for Tunisia, working closely with the Managed Service Provider and regional and Group Controllership teams. It oversees Tunisia’s tax rulings, manages retained financial processes, leads local statutory and tax activities, and liaises with local authorities and external advisors. The postholder monitors financial and regulatory risks, provides guidance to minimise exposure, and drives continuous improvement. The role also requires confident engagement with senior stakeholders to ensure robust financial results aligned with corporate policies and accounting standards.




Accountabilities:




The role provides leadership and people management, fostering professionalism, adherence to British Council values, and a culture of continuous learning. It is accountable for ensuring accurate, timely financial accounting and statutory reporting by working closely with the MSP and managing retained in‑country processes, including P2P, O2C, R2R, CLM, tax compliance, cashflow reporting, banking activities, and audits. The postholder oversees the completion of local statutory accounts, manages relationships with outsourced accounting firms, and ensures the provision of accurate information for global reporting and tax compliance. The role ensures compliance with CNSS requirements, leads regulatory audits, and provides stakeholder engagement and business partnering to ensure alignment with accounting standards and external reporting obligations. It also offers expert guidance on local tax and statutory matters, identifies complex transactions, recommends appropriate treatments, and produces relevant financial reports. Additionally, the postholder drives service improvement by implementing new or updated accounting, tax, and reporting requirements, ensuring effective communication, training, and compliance across stakeholders.





Requirements of the role:




  • Several active years of financial controllership and related experience.
  • Knowledge of local laws and experience managing corporate taxation, tax compliances, VAT management and statutory reporting.
  • Good understanding of financial control processes and Professional Accounting Standards (including local requirements where applicable) for Commercial and/or Charitable organisations.
  • Track record of managing key finance function and leading an efficient, innovative and result oriented team.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating experience.
  • ERP experience.
  • Qualified accountant with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
