Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.
We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life.
Everyone has an important role to play.
With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Role description: Arcadis is excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Senior Site Engineer, Structures & Bridges to play a pivotal part in the construction phase of the Fraser River Tunnel Project (FRTP)—a landmark, multi-billion-dollar initiative replacing the George Massey Tunnel with an eight-lane Immersed Tube Tunnel (ITT).
This role is a high-level technical and field leadership position, critical to the successful delivery of one of the region’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
In this role, the Senior Site Engineer bridges the gap between complex structural design and physical execution, ensuring that bridge approaches, tunnel segments, and associated highway structures are constructed in accordance with design specifications and the project’s exacting seismic and quality standards.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute technical expertise to a transformative project, working alongside industry leaders committed to innovation, safety, and sustainability.
Role accountabilities: In this role, you will lead the on-site execution of major structural works for the Fraser River Tunnel Project, including the casting of tunnel elements at Deas Island, marine construction activities, and the construction of approach bridges and interchanges.
Your leadership will be instrumental in driving progress on these critical components and ensuring that all work meets the highest standards of technical excellence.
A key focus of your responsibilities will be technical problem solving, as you resolve complex Requests for Information (RFIs) and address field discrepancies through close collaboration with the design team.
This role requires keen analytical skills and the ability to navigate and resolve unexpected issues in real time, maintaining project momentum and quality.
In addition, you will lead the implementation and audit of Quality Assurance protocols, with particular emphasis on high-performance concrete, prestressed steel, and seismic reinforcements.
Oversight of specialized marine and civil subcontractors will also fall under your remit, ensuring their work aligns with both technical requirements and the project’s rigid 2030 completion timeline.
Safety leadership is paramount in this role, as you enforce rigorous Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards, especially given the unique risks of working in the Fraser River’s tidal and silty conditions.
You will also manage coordination between structural teams and other disciplines, such as geotechnical engineering for soil preloading and the relocation of utilities, ensuring seamless project integration and hand-offs throughout construction.
Qualifications & Experience: Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s is an asset).
Licensure: Registered Professional Engineer (P.
Eng.) with EGBC (Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia) or eligible for immediate registration.
Experience: 10+ years in heavy civil infrastructure, specifically with bridges, tunnels, or marine structures.
Experience with Immersed Tube Tunnels (ITT) or large-scale BC Ministry of Transportation (MoTI) projects is a significant asset.
Technical Skills: * Proficiency in structural codes like the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC).
Familiarity with project management software (P6, Procore, or Revizto).
Field Readiness: Ability to work in a dynamic site environment, including potential night shifts or weekend work during "fish windows" (environmental work periods between July and February).
