Directed Energy Research Center are seeking a highly motivated Lead Software Engineer to join TII and contribute to the development and implementation of a spaceborne SAR payload.
The role involves leading a software team responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining on-board and ground software/firmware components that support instrument operations, data acquisition, and performance monitoring.
The job also requires managing and mentoring a team of junior engineers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Define software architecture and ensure alignment with system-level requirements and mission objectives.
- Oversee the development of on-board embedded software for instrument control, data handling, and telemetry.
- Coordinate the development of ground support software/firmware for integration, testing, and operational monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with space industry standards and mission-specific operations requirements.
- Collaborate with system engineers, hardware designers, and mission operations teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
- Develop and maintain software verification and validation plans, including automated testing frameworks.
- Implement and oversee end-to-end encryption protocols for satellite telemetry, tracking, command (TT&C), and payload data.
- Manage software configuration control, documentation, and versioning.
- Support anomaly investigations and contribute to software updates during the operational phase of the mission.
- Provide training and mentorship to a team of young engineers in the relevant technical domain.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software engineering, computer science or similar field.
- At least 10 years of practical experience developing SW.
- Proven experience in leading software development teams, preferably in aerospace or high-reliability environments.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Verilog/VHDL, and embedded systems development.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), software testing, and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with space mission software standards and protocols, such as the ECSS and CCSDS.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
- Proficient in English language, both written and spoken.
