The job holder is responsible for managing client portfolio as relationship manager, developing and driving key initiatives and partnering with Global Network Banking (GNB) and HSBC, China (HBCN) CIB stakeholders to deliver the power of HSBC's international network to our customers. As Manager, China Client Coverage you will be also responsible for relationships with external stakeholders, including local and foreign governments, trade bodies and commercial chambers focusing on identifying and capturing key Other Deposit Inflows (ODI) opportunities.




In this role, you will:



  • Grow sustainable revenues from the existing customer portfolio with responsibility for cross selling and product penetration
  • Pro-actively acquiring new clients that fit into the GNB framework (e.g. work as new business hunter)
  • Serve as an advisor to clients with regional HQs in the UAE by leveraging on our regional network
  • Monitor the client portfolio regularly and generate quality assets using appropriate risk management tools, priced appropriately for risk and within customers and HSBC's risk appetite
  • Establish an effective working relationship with Risk to validate the accuracy of the customer risk profile and ensure sustainable asset growth
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable operational risk HSBC Standards and policies, reporting any breaches in accordance with local procedures
  • Keep abreast of developments, products and offerings from HSBC, competitors and market changes
  • Encourage and enable constructive cross-country and cross-business teamwork and challenging actions and behaviours that are not consistent with HSBC's diversity policy and/or the best interests of the business and its customers
  • Formulate/review customer account strategies and liaise with Clusters/Branches assigning prospects and opportunities to HBCN Coverage Bankers / GNB Relationship Managers
  • Build relationships with government officials, trade bodies, commercial chambers and regulators in China. Focus on capturing ODI opportunities.
  • Establish the agenda for internal education (e.g. workshops and seminars) and external marketing (client forums and summits)
  • Provide thought leadership on Outbound matters to key internal stakeholders and serve as subject matter expert


To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:



  • Relevant work and transaction expertise in coverage/corporate banking
  • Passionate about financial markets and knowledgeable of MENA and China markets
  • Proficient in credit analysis and risk management
  • Strong analytical skills with a commercial mindset
  • Visible and motivational leadership, ability to work within a team setup
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis upon inspiring, influencing and negotiating in dealing with customers and colleagues
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize, with tenacity to drive through results and meet tight deadlines
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin
  • A graduation degree is essential for obtaining a UAE visa and work permit. If your university certificate is from outside the UAE, up-to-date attestations and equivalency are also mandatory (Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications Issued Outside The UAE)
