Job Purpose

The OCC Duty Manager plays a central role in overseeing and coordinating the activities of multiple operational teams, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC) during their assigned shift. They are responsible for monitoring flight status, identifying potential disruptions, implementing contingency plans, and making informed decisions to optimize operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness in a multi-hub, multi-airline business model.




Key Result Responsibilities
  • Executes all Operational Control Center (OCC) tasks for flights within the Daily Flight Schedule during assigned duty periods, maintaining a proactive approach to operational excellence.
  • Acts as a focal point for resolving operational issues and conflicts that may arise within the IOCC during the assigned shift. Makes decisions to resolve disputes, coordinate solutions, and maintain a smooth flow of operations.
  • Manages the entirety of the company's flight schedules, handling all operational facets with precision and foresight.
  • Proactively organizes rerouting, rescheduling, or cancellation of flights, addressing both operational and commercial considerations, to optimize efficiency.
  • Communicates and collaborates with IOCC management and other departments, addressing facility inadequacies that may disrupt scheduled flights, prioritizing safety and operational continuity.
  • Takes the lead in initiating and monitoring emergencies, incidents, and accident responses, ensuring a swift and effective resolution.
  • Reports accidents and incidents promptly to IOCC management, facilitating a comprehensive and transparent response.
  • Exercises operational decision-making to restore operations during abnormal situations, conducting short delay analyses, aircraft and crew re-scheduling, diversions, and managing challenges such as adverse weather conditions, technical malfunctions, medical emergencies, and security threats.
  • Monitors and processes incoming messages from relevant authorities in the countries where the airline operates, ensuring compliance with operational regulations.
  • Monitors flight status and real-time operational data to identify potential disruptions, delays, or cancellations. Identify potential issues and develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions, maintain operational integrity, and protect the airline's reputation.
  • Oversee the allocation of operational resources, including aircraft, crew, and ground equipment. Make decisions regarding resource utilization, ensuring the right resources are deployed at the right time to optimize efficiency and minimize costs.

  • Ensures clear & timely communication and collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, and external parties including airport authorities, air traffic control, and ground handling partners, to facilitate prompt and coordinated responses, maintain smooth operations and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Continuously monitor fuel consumption and implement fuel-saving measures, optimize flight routes, altitudes, and procedures, balancing cost-effectiveness with safety and efficiency considerations.
  • Analyzes operational data and identify trends to suggest improvements, optimize processes, and enhance cost-effectiveness.
  • Documents operational incidents, disruptions, and decisions made during the shift, maintaining accurate and comprehensive records for future reference and analysis.
  • Ensures adherence to all applicable aviation regulations and safety standards while maintaining operational efficiency. Prioritizes the safety and well-being of passengers, crew, and ground staff while making informed decisions to minimize disruptions and delays.

Qualifications (Academic, training, languages)

  • A bachelor's degree in aerospace, engineering, aviation operations, or a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of emergency response protocols and procedures, including incident and accident management in the airline context.
  • Understanding of meteorological principles and the ability to interpret weather forecasts and reports to make informed operational decisions.
  • Familiarity with navigational systems and technologies used in aviation for route planning, navigation, and communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant aviation software, including crew management systems, flight planning tools, and operational data analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of national and international aviation regulations governing flight operations, safety, and compliance in a multi-hub, multi-airline environment.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols within the aviation industry, including interactions with air traffic control, ground services, and other stakeholders.
  • Crisis Management: Understanding of crisis management principles and the ability to lead and coordinate responses to critical incidents.
  • Familiarity with decision-making frameworks and analytical tools for assessing and making critical decisions in time-sensitive situations.
  • Knowledge of global geography, airspace structures, and airport infrastructure to facilitate effective flight planning and management.
  • Understanding of aerospace industry operations, including flight planning, scheduling, crew management, and aircraft performance.

Work Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive working experience in airline operations of which a minimum of 3 years’ experience in management role, preferably in a multi-hub, multi airline environment.
  • Ability to identify and assess operational risks, implementing strategies to mitigate potential issues and ensuring a proactive approach to risk management
