Job description

GHD is a global professional services company delivering advisory, engineering, and project management services across infrastructure, buildings, and industry. With a strong presence in the Middle East, GHD works closely with public and private sector clients to shape policy, standards, and frameworks that support safe, resilient, and future-ready built environments.

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager (Electrical) to lead and manage a high-profile electrical regulatory programme. This role is focused on governance, coordination, technical oversight, and stakeholder engagement, rather than engineering design.

Role Overview

The Senior Project Manager (Electrical) will be responsible for managing the delivery of a major electrical regulations–related programme on behalf of the client. The role requires deep technical understanding of electrical wiring regulations, combined with strong programme management, client-facing, and communication skills.

The successful candidate will act as the primary interface between the client, stakeholders, and technical contributors, ensuring updates, reviews, and approvals are delivered in a structured, transparent, and well-governed manner.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Programme Management

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of an electrical regulatory programme in line with agreed scope, programme, and governance frameworks.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, action trackers, risk registers, and reporting dashboards.
  • Coordinate inputs from technical specialists, reviewers, authorities, and wider stakeholders.
  • Ensure deliverables are issued on time, aligned with client expectations, and supported by clear audit trails and approvals.
  • Manage change control, scope clarifications, and programme risks in collaboration with the client.

Technical Oversight & Regulatory Knowledge

  • Apply strong technical understanding of electrical wiring regulations to guide discussions, reviews, and decision-making.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of key standards and regulations, including:
    • Abu Dhabi Electrical Wiring Regulations (AD EWR)
    • BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations – 18th Edition and amendments)
    • DEWA regulations and standards
    • IEC standards and international benchmarks
  • Support the interpretation, comparison, and alignment of regional and international standards where required.
  • Ensure technical discussions remain focused, accurate, and appropriate for senior stakeholders and non-technical audiences.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary client-facing lead, representing GHD in meetings, workshops, and formal presentations.
  • Plan and lead stakeholder workshops, technical review sessions, and consultation meetings.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, structured presentations to senior client representatives and external stakeholders.
  • Build strong working relationships with regulatory authorities, industry representatives, and client teams.
  • Capture stakeholder feedback and ensure it is tracked, addressed, and incorporated appropriately.

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare high-quality project reports, briefing notes, executive summaries, and presentation materials.
  • Translate complex technical and regulatory matters into clear, concise, and well-structured communications.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the client, including risks, issues, dependencies, and recommendations.

Governance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure project delivery aligns with GHD’s quality management systems and project governance frameworks.
  • Support internal and external reviews, audits, and approvals as required.
  • Maintain clear documentation, version control, and decision logs throughout the programme lifecycle.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10–15 years’ experience working with electrical regulations, standards, or authority-led programmes.
  • Strong, demonstrable knowledge of electrical wiring regulations, including:
    • AD EWR
    • BS 7671 (18th Edition and amendments)
    • DEWA standards
    • IEC standards
  • Proven experience in project or programme management roles, particularly within regulatory, standards, or governance-led environments.
  • Excellent client-facing and presentation skills, with experience engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills, including preparation of reports, guidance documents, and presentations.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and coordinate technical inputs without being in a design delivery role.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status (IET, CIBSE, or equivalent) or working towards chartership.
  • Experience working directly with authorities, government entities, or regulatory bodies.
  • Familiarity with consultation-led processes, industry engagement, and formal approval pathways.
  • Experience within a consultancy or professional services environment.

What GHD Offers

  • The opportunity to lead a high-impact, authority-facing programme influencing electrical safety and regulatory frameworks.
  • A collaborative and inclusive working environment supported by global technical expertise.
  • Career progression opportunities within project management, advisory, and leadership pathways.
  • Competitive remuneration and benefits aligned with senior-level experience.
