About the job TESTING AND COMMISSIONING PROTECTION ENGINEER

The Protection Engineer shall execute testing, commissioning, and functional verification of protection relays and schemes for HV/EHV substations in compliance with TAQA standards.


Job Responsibilities


  • Perform testing and commissioning of protection relays (ABB, Siemens, GE, SEL, etc.)
  • Carry out secondary injection and end-to-end testing
  • Verify protection schemes including: Differential, Distance, Overcurrent & Earth Fault, Busbar & Transformer Protection
  • Review protection settings, logic diagrams, and interlocks
  • Coordinate with SCADA and primary equipment teams
  • Prepare test reports, protection records, and as-built documentation
  • Support energization and fault investigation if required

Key Qualifications:


  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • TAQA Competent Person Certification – Mandatory
  • Minimum 7–10 years experience in protection testing & commissioning
  • Hands-on experience with relay test kits (OMICRON, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of IEC 61850 preferred
