Job description

Role type: Part-time to full-time (flexible)

Location: Remote (UK time overlap required)

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Gaza Sunbirds

About Gaza Sunbirds

The Gaza Sunbirds are Palestine’s para-cycling team and humanitarian initiative, empowering amputee athletes to serve their communities through sport and solidarity. Since 2023, the team has led large-scale aid operations, food distributions, and community resilience projects across Gaza, while continuing its mission to represent Palestine internationally in para-cycling competitions.

Role summary

The Content Strategy & Editorial Lead is responsible for turning campaign and advocacy strategy into clear, executable content, while acting as the editorial gatekeeper before anything is published.

Core responsibilities

  • Translate campaign and advocacy priorities into content plans and formats
  • Define and maintain editorial standards (tone, language, political framing)
  • Write content tickets and production briefs
  • Communicate filming and submission requirements with all stakeholders
  • Review and filter content before final approval
  • Act as the content interface for athletes (what to film, what not to post)
  • Coordinate with Gaza production and editors to ensure consistency and speed

Editing responsibility (important)

Until additional editing support is hired, this role will be responsible for editing short-form content (reels, stories, simple posts).

This editing responsibility is temporary and will be reduced or removed once dedicated editors are onboarded.

Out of scope

  • Final approval or public sign-off
  • Deciding advocacy positions
  • Long-term execution-only editing
  • Athlete welfare, logistics, or training

Time commitment

  • Flexible: part-time to full-time
  • Initial phase may be more hands-on (including editing)
  • Scope will narrow as the team grows

Why this role matters

This role protects editorial quality, strategic coherence, and reputational safety in a high-risk communications environment, and evolves as the team scales.

In Gaza, the Gaza Sunbirds do more than ride - we deliver aid, share stories, and show up where institutions fail. Since the start of the war, we’ve distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in food, medical supplies, tents, and essentials. Our athletes and staff have become frontline responders and community organisers.. We document what’s happening, we amplify voices that are being silenced, turning survival into storytelling. With whatever tools we, we bring dignity, hope, and visibility to a gazan community that refuses to break.
